Humayun Kabir Congratulates West Bengal Residents for Rejecting TMC

The CSR Journal Magazine

Humayun Kabir, founder of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AUJP), congratulated the citizens of West Bengal for their decision to reject the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the recent assembly elections. Kabir accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of misappropriating state resources, claiming that the alleged financial misconduct under her leadership surpassed that of the British during colonial rule. He expressed his delight at the electoral outcome, which he described as inevitable.

Speaking to the media, Kabir expressed his views on the political climate, stating, “What can I say? What has happened is good. This was bound to happen.” He highlighted the concentration of power within TMC, particularly with regard to Banerjee’s nephew. Kabir’s comments reflect the frustration among the electorate and the growing discontent towards the incumbent government.

Kabir’s Position in Election Results

Humayun Kabir, who was previously expelled from the TMC due to controversies surrounding the Babri Masjid, is reportedly leading in both the Reijinagar and Nowda constituencies. As per the Election Commission of India, TMC candidate Ataur Rahaman fell to third place in Reijinagar following three rounds of counting, while Kabir maintained a strong position. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Bapan Ghosh, was in second place, trailing Kabir by a margin of 6,325 votes.

In Nowda, Kabir similarly secured the lead with ongoing counting results that placed him well ahead of TMC candidate Sahina Momtaz Khan, who was reported to be in the third position. Kabir has optimistically stated, “I will win both seats and take the certificate home at 3 pm,” indicating his confidence in the results.

Shifts in the Political Landscape of West Bengal

The Bharatiya Janata Party has reportedly crossed the majority threshold in these elections, significantly impacting Mamata Banerjee’s ambition for a fourth consecutive term as Chief Minister. As of 1:15 pm, trends indicated that the BJP was leading in 187 seats, while TMC was in the lead on 92 seats, reflecting a considerable shift in the political landscape of West Bengal.

BJP workers were seen celebrating outside Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kolkata, chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ as the party secured what appears to be a comfortable majority. The recent state elections have also seen a record voter turnout, with 91.66 per cent participation in the second phase, building on a strong 93.19 per cent turnout in the first phase. This brings the total voter engagement to an impressive 92.47 per cent overall.

In the previous 2021 assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee’s TMC had secured 213 out of 294 seats, capturing around 48 per cent of the total vote share. The BJP emerged as the main opposition party, winning 77 seats with approximately 38 per cent of the votes. In contrast, the Left-Congress alliance failed to secure any seats, highlighting the shifting allegiances within West Bengal’s electorate.
