“Will Handpick Every Accused and Put Them Behind Bars”: Amit Shah Slams TMC over Sandeshkhali, RG Kar Incidents

The CSR Journal Magazine

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has delivered a strong critique of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government concerning women’s safety in West Bengal. Speaking at a public meeting in Salboni, West Medinipur, on April 21, Shah cited specific incidents that allegedly reflect a deterioration in law and order across the state. He referred to cases in Sandeshkhali, RG Kar Medical College, Durgapur Medical College, and South Kolkata Law College, expressing concerns regarding the treatment of women.

Shah alleged that under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s rule, the safety of women has been compromised, stating that mothers and daughters in the state are not protected. He further claimed that the ruling party’s supporters have, for years, taken advantage of women, specifically referencing reports from Sandeshkhali where local women reportedly faced coercion and exploitation.

The Union Minister vowed that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins the upcoming elections, it would take decisive action against those implicated in crimes against women. He emphasised the party’s commitment to ensuring safety and justice for victims.

Electoral Promises and Welfare Measures

During his speech, Shah outlined a series of promises aimed at women’s welfare and youth assistance if the BJP forms the government. He announced that women would receive direct financial aid of Rs 3,000 monthly, while there would also be provisions of Rs 21,000 for pregnant women. These initiatives are aimed at empowering women and supporting their autonomy in financial matters.

Moreover, he proposed financial assistance for unemployed youths and additional welfare measures such as free bus travel for women on government buses and ongoing support for widows, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities. The BJP leader stated that medical expenses for healthcare would be covered up to Rs 5 lakh for five years under their governance.

Shah also indicated that the BJP would facilitate low-interest loans for youth entrepreneurship, aiming to lend Rs 10 lakh to new business ventures, thus promoting employment and industrial development in the region. He assured that timely disbursal of benefits related to the 7th Pay Commission would be prioritised for government employees.

Shah’s Call for Political Change

In his address, Shah invoked the legacy of Khudiram Bose, a noted revolutionary, and drew attention to alleged misrepresentations of historical figures by the current government. He questioned the credibility of a government that demonises freedom fighters, suggesting that such leadership should not continue in power.

Shah framed the upcoming elections as pivotal for West Bengal, underscoring the urgency of removing illegal infiltrators and enacting significant political change. He cast the elections not merely as a competition for legislative seats but as a fight for the rights and safety of citizens in Bengal.

He concluded by urging the public to support the BJP by voting for their candidate, claiming that a BJP-led government would prioritise the expulsion of unwanted elements from the state and improve overall governance. The voting for the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections is scheduled to take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with results expected on May 4.
