Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor, Vinai Kumar Saxena, has conferred the “UT State Awards” on thirty-six individuals for the period 2022-2025. This gesture aims to recognise remarkable contributions and exemplary services across various fields, highlighting those who have played a significant role in the progress of Ladakh.

As per an official statement, these awards are instituted by the Administration of the Union Territory. They are intended to honour individuals whose achievements, creativity, and commitment have profoundly influenced society. The awards encompass a wide range of sectors, such as bravery, literature, art and craft, social reforms, environmental protection, public service, sports, entrepreneurship, and education.

During the award ceremony, held on August 12, 2026, L-G Saxena emphasised the importance of recognising exemplary work that contributes to societal welfare and the development of Ladakh. He mentioned that the awards are designed to encourage a culture of excellence, inspiring individuals, especially the younger generation, to participate actively in the region’s progress.

Core Values of the Awards

Saxena articulated that the UT State Awards signify not only the recognition of past accomplishments but also a celebration of values such as courage, dedication, service, and excellence. He expressed that the true impact of these awards will manifest when the stories of the award recipients motivate others, particularly youth, to aim higher and work diligently towards meaningful contributions to society.

He congratulated the awardees for their achievements, which have collectively advanced Ladakh’s social, cultural, educational, economic, and athletic spheres. Saxena noted that their personal journeys exemplify courage in facing challenges, compassion, respect for heritage, commitment to community service, humility, and determination to excel in their respective fields.

The Lieutenant Governor further mentioned that acknowledging excellence in various domains creates a multiplier effect within society. By celebrating such achievements, the administration hopes to inspire new generations to envision and pursue ambitious goals while remaining committed to societal welfare.

Future Aspirations for Ladakh’s Youth

Saxena addressed the youth of Ladakh, encouraging them to learn from the experiences of the awardees. He urged them to cultivate the confidence necessary to chase significant aspirations, highlighting the importance of a supportive environment where talent is nurtured, hard work is recognised, and young people can realise their potential.

He underscored the administration’s goal of fostering an atmosphere in which modern development remains interconnected with Ladakh’s cultural values. Saxena reiterated that creating pathways for success must also include maintaining a connection with the region’s rich heritage.

In closing, L-G Saxena called for a collective effort to build a brighter future for Ladakh, emphasising that the achievements of the awardees should serve as a guiding light for many, propelling them towards valuable contributions in society and the nation’s greater progress.
