A 31-year-old technology professional, Advait Upadhyay, who went missing during a solo trek at Shivagange Hill in Bengaluru Rural on August 7, is now presumed dead following a drone sighting of an object resembling a human body. Advait, a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and a cybersecurity expert, resided in Kadugodi and was employed at a finance firm located in Whitefield.

According to police reports, CCTV footage documented Advait arriving at Shivagange around 7.30 am on the day of his trek. He had planned to return later that afternoon but failed to do so. Advait had rented a motorcycle for his trip, which was subsequently found parked at the base of the hill with no additional clues regarding his whereabouts.

Authorities traced his last mobile signal to Kuduru on Kunigal Road, an area reportedly distant from typical trekking paths associated with Shivagange. His phone was subsequently turned off, adding to the confusion regarding his disappearance.

Search and Rescue Efforts Intensified

The search and rescue operations have seen an escalation as police and various agencies mobilised resources. Drone teams discovered an object in dense vegetation near Shantala Drop, a notably steep and secluded section of Shivagange Hill. This finding has sparked concerns that Advait may have sustained injuries or suffered a fatal accident.

Despite the discovery, officials are yet to confirm the identity of the object located by the drones. The challenging terrain and thick undergrowth have hindered rescue teams from reaching the precise location, complicating efforts to ascertain the situation.

Investigation into Circumstances Surrounding Disappearance

As rescue operations continue, investigations are underway regarding Advait’s activities preceding his disappearance. Authorities are scrutinising the browsing history on his laptop, which reportedly contains searches related to Shivagange, Shantala Drop, and locations in Bengaluru linked to suicides. However, police have not drawn any conclusions regarding Advait’s intentions.

The focus of the ongoing investigation remains primarily on locating Advait and verifying the identity of the object sighted by the drone. Furthermore, police in Indore reported they have not yet received any official communication from their Bengaluru counterparts regarding Advait’s case.

The Indore Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police stated that should Advait’s family seek assistance, they would provide all possible resources. While no direct contact has been made by Advait’s family with the Indore Police, efforts are being initiated to liaise with the Bengaluru police to acquire further information about the situation.

As the search and rescue operations persist at Shivagange, authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding Advait’s disappearance while hoping for a breakthrough in the case.
