The CSR Journal Magazine

A gang of five men in Nagpur has reportedly used a gay dating app to target and exploit young men, leading to a recent kidnapping and robbery incident. Law enforcement authorities revealed the details of the case on Friday, highlighting the modus operandi used by the accused to lure their victims.

The five arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Sheikh Zakir Mohammad Sheikh Fakruddin, Kunal Mandre, Sultan Ali Sayyad, Farhan Faizan Khan, and Shizan Sheikh Fakruddin Ali Ahmed. Preliminary investigations indicate that the gang was active in targeting delivery boys and other vulnerable young men.

This particular incident took place around midnight on June 22, when the victim, a delivery boy, was returning home on his Activa scooter after completing his work shift. While travelling through the Mankapur Chowk area, one of the accused allegedly approached him with a request for a lift, which the delivery boy, wanting to assist, granted.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Kidnapping

After allowing the accused onto the scooter, the situation escalated when the offender allegedly signalled his accomplices. Shortly thereafter, the gang surrounded the delivery boy and forcibly took control of the scooter. Reports indicate that they snatched away his keys, mobile phone, and ATM card.

Following the kidnapping, the gang reportedly transported the delivery boy to several undisclosed locations while threatening him. In an effort to extort money, they allegedly contacted individuals known to the victim under false pretences, demanding cash transfers to his bank account.

Police Investigation and Arrests

In light of the alarming incident, police formed three dedicated teams to address the case and gather evidence. Extensive examination of CCTV footage from the area surrounding the crime scene played a critical role in the investigation. Additionally, a combination of technical analysis and confidential information contributed to identifying the five accused.

Upon compiling sufficient evidence, law enforcement officials successfully apprehended all five suspects. The accused are currently in police custody as investigations continue to uncover further details of their operations and any potential additional victims.

This case underscores the importance of safety precautions when using dating apps and serves as a reminder of the risks involved. As the investigation progresses, police are urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could indicate similar incidents.
