Sahibzada Farhan, the opening batsman for Pakistan’s T20I team, recently recounted his experiences of facing Jasprit Bumrah during the Asia Cup 2025. Bumrah is widely regarded as one of the most imposing bowlers in T20 cricket, presenting challenges for batsmen throughout the match. Despite this, Farhan managed to effectively tackle Bumrah, notably striking him for three sixes, marking a unique achievement as he became the only batsman to hit Bumrah for three sixes in T20 internationals.
In total, Farhan scored 51 runs off 34 balls against Bumrah, which included six boundaries alongside his three sixes, and he maintained an impressive strike rate of 150. This performance highlights Farhan’s ability to approach high-pressure situations with skill and composure.
Boosting Confidence Against Other Bowlers
During an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Farhan stated that his successful encounters with Bumrah significantly enhanced his confidence, allowing him to face other Indian bowlers more comfortably. He remarked that while Bumrah is challenging, he is not the sole threat within the Indian bowling lineup. Farhan specifically mentioned bowlers such as Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, emphasising that the quality of the Indian bowling attack as a whole should not be underestimated.
Farhan elaborated on his approach, mentioning that starting his innings against Bumrah helped him gain momentum. “You get confidence as a player when you hit a good bowler for a six,” he claimed, affirming the importance of this initial success against a formidable opponent.
In the final match of the Asia Cup, Farhan contributed significantly by scoring 57 runs off 38 balls. However, it was teammate Tilak Varma’s outstanding performance that led to India’s eventual triumph and secured the championship title.
Challenges and Tactics Against Bumrah
Farhan acknowledged that facing Bumrah can be daunting, particularly at the outset. The bowler employs a range of deliveries, including slower balls, yorkers, and bouncers, alongside his ability to swing the ball both in and out. Farhan noted that dealing with such variations makes it inherently challenging to play against Bumrah.
<h4″He gave me a tough time initially,” Farhan admitted. “You have to find your way. Once you manage to get through that period of pressure, the challenge posed by the rest of the bowling attack seems less overwhelming,” he explained. This perspective showcases how navigating through difficult phases against a top bowler can provide psychological relief when facing subsequent bowlers.
