Delhi Police Arrested 2 ISI-linked Operatives in Gwalior, Planning Attacks in Delhi-NCR

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Special Cell of Delhi Police apprehended two individuals on Tuesday, purportedly connected to a Pakistan-based ISI affiliate named Shahzad Bhatti. They are alleged to be part of a conspiracy aimed at executing targeted killings and grenade assaults within the Delhi-NCR area. The suspects have been identified as Rajveer, aged 21, and 19-year-old Vivek Banjara, both hailing from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.

Authorities are actively probing the operational network and its affiliations as part of ongoing investigations. This operation has drawn attention to a significant threat posed by the individuals in question.

How the Investigation Unfolded

The investigation commenced last month after law enforcement gathered intelligence suggesting that Bhatti and other ISI operatives were orchestrating grenade attacks and targeted killings in the region. Following these alerts, the Special Cell pursued leads which ultimately directed them to Gwalior, where they arrested Banjara on April 16.

Following his capture, Banjara was placed in police custody for five days, during which time his interrogation revealed details that led to Rajveer’s arrest on April 18 in Sarai Kale Khan, Delhi. During this operation, officers recovered a pistol, six live cartridges, and two mobile phones that contained damning videos and audio messages.

Further details emerged from the investigations regarding the radicalisation of Rajveer, who allegedly became involved through social media influences, particularly from an individual referred to as ‘Rana Bhai’, connected to Bhatti. Rajveer reportedly introduced Banjara to both Rana and Bhatti.

Planned Attacks and Escalation

Rajveer attempted to execute the plan on April 11 but encountered a malfunction with the weapon. Following a brief period in the Delhi-NCR area, he travelled to Faridkot, where he allegedly obtained another pistol and six live cartridges from an associate of Bhatti. Rajveer then returned to Delhi with intentions to target a well-known hotel, but he was apprehended shortly thereafter on April 18.

The arrests represented a significant apprehension in a broader context, as they followed closely the Special Cell’s dismantling of another purported interstate module linked to espionage, terrorism, and arms smuggling originating from Pakistan.

Context of Recent Operations

This operation stands as the second major success for the Special Cell within a short span, enhancing the investigation into a module reported to have affiliations with the Khalistani terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International. Such findings indicate the depth of the threat posed by these networks.

Following the earlier operation, 11 additional individuals were taken into custody, furthering the police’s insights into the ISI-supported framework. Authorities believe these recent arrests have thwarted potential grenade attacks aimed at significant security installations.

In light of these developments, law enforcement agencies remain vigilant and actively engaged in monitoring the situation, seeking to mitigate any further threats from these networks in the region.
