Delhi Court To Conduct Daily Hearings In Shraddha Walkar Murder Case

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Saket court in New Delhi has announced that it will begin daily hearings in the Shraddha Walkar murder case starting July 20. This decision aims to expedite the trial, which has been awaiting resolution since 2023. Aftab Amin Poonawala is currently facing charges related to the alleged murder of his live-in partner, Shraddha Walkar.

Additional Sessions Judge Hargurvarinder Singh Jaggi outlined that the prosecution’s evidence will be recorded every day until July 25, with the possibility of further dates being set for August after that period. As part of this process, eight prosecution witnesses have been identified for examination, while the chief evidence of 13 witnesses has already been partially recorded.

The court also noted that evidence from an additional 12 witnesses is yet to be presented. The legal proceedings have drawn public interest due to the nature of the allegations and the ongoing challenges in scheduling hearings.

Recent Developments In The Case

During a recent court hearing, the evidence from Head Constable Deepak was recorded before he was discharged for the day. This came after the defence counsel requested time to review a video linked to the case. Furthermore, the defence indicated their inability to provide daily arguments due to overlapping commitments in other cases.

The Special Public Prosecutor, Madhukar Pandey, put forward three applications seeking permission to take evidence from various Nodal Officers from prominent tech companies such as Google, WhatsApp, and Bumble via video conferencing. These applications, dated December 24, 2024, February 17, 2025, and July 10, 2025, are pending a response from the accused.

The court has reserved its judgment on these applications, with a decision expected to be announced on June 1 at 4 PM. The defence counsel indicated he did not wish to file a reply, leading the court to consider the prosecutor’s arguments instead.

Background Of The Case

An FIR concerning the alleged murder of Shraddha Walkar was filed at the Mehrauli police station in November 2022. It is reported that the murder occurred in May 2022, with allegations suggesting that Aftab Amin Poonawala disposed of Shraddha’s body parts in a jungle following the crime. The gravity of these allegations has contributed to the prolonged nature of the proceedings.

In a significant emotional aspect of this case, Vikas Walkar, Shraddha’s father, passed away in 2025. This development has added layers of complexity and sensitivity to the ongoing trial as it has affected the family involved. The court has urged Aftab Poonawala to retain new legal representation if his current counsel is unable to fulfil the requirements for defending his interests effectively.

The hearing remains a matter of public scrutiny, with many looking towards the progression of justice in this high-profile case. As the court prepares for the upcoming daily hearings, attention continues to focus on the legal arguments and evidence that will be presented in the months to come.
