Cocktail 2 Surpasses Box Office Collection of Original Film

The CSR Journal Magazine

The recent release Cocktail 2, directed by Homi Adajania and starring Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Kriti Sanon, has reportedly exceeded the lifetime nett collection of the 2012 film Cocktail. Over the course of nine days, the film has amassed a nett collection of Rs 78.75 crore in India, surpassing the original’s lifetime total of Rs 71 crore. This marked achievement comes despite a decline in box office performance following a robust opening weekend.

As per trade analyst estimates, the worldwide gross for Cocktail 2 has reached Rs 120.72 crore. This figure includes a gross collection of Rs 93.97 crore from India and Rs 26.75 crore from international markets. The film’s strong presence at theatres contributed to its ability to overtake the original film’s performance, which ended with a gross of Rs 122.99 crore globally.

On its ninth day, Cocktail 2 collected Rs 4.25 crore from screenings across 3,946 shows. Although the current figures are commendable, they indicate a marked slowdown in momentum compared to the strong earnings seen initially.

Box Office Comparisons and Trends

A comparison between the box office collections of both films shows distinct trends. The original Cocktail finished its run with a nett collection of Rs 71 crore in India, with its worldwide gross closing at Rs 122.99 crore. In contrast, as of Day 9, Cocktail 2 has achieved a substantial India nett collation of Rs 78.75 crore, but its worldwide gross remains slightly lower at Rs 120.72 crore.

In its opening weekend, Cocktail 2 recorded impressive figures: Rs 13.50 crore on Friday, Rs 16.25 crore on Saturday, and Rs 17.75 crore on Sunday, bringing the total to Rs 47 crore.

However, the film has since seen a decline in ticket sales, with each day recording lower collections.

The first week concluded with a nett collection of Rs 70.50 crore. Following that period, the film experienced further declines, earning Rs 6.75 crore on both Monday and Tuesday, followed by Rs 5.25 crore on Wednesday and Rs 4.25 crore on Thursday. The second Friday yielded Rs 4 crore, and the subsequent Saturday saw slight improvement with Rs 4.25 crore, yet this still signifies limited growth.

Overview and Creative Team

Directed by Homi Adajania, Cocktail 2 is presented as a spiritual successor to the earlier romantic drama, continuing its thematic presence whilst featuring a new cast. The film has been produced by noted names in the industry including Dinesh Vijan, Luv Ranjan, and Ankur Garg, under the banners of Maddock Films and Luv Films.

In addition to Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna taking the lead roles, the original Cocktail featured prominent actors Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty.

While both films share a thematic essence, Cocktail 2 aims to establish its own identity within the cinematic landscape.

This latest release has garnered attention for its star cast and storyline. As the film progresses through its theatrical run, audiences and industry stakeholders will watch closely to observe any further changes in its box office dynamics.
