China Announces New Direct Flight Routes With India Amid Improving Ties

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Deputy Consul General of China in Kolkata, Qin Yong, announced a significant development in aviation between India and China, stating that a series of new direct flight routes have recently been established. Speaking at the launch of the book ‘You Can Become Zero Se Hero’ in Salt Lake, Qin noted the importance of these developments for both nations.

Qin expressed that these new flight routes represent an enhancement in bilateral relations and facilitate greater connectivity for travellers. Notable exchanges between senior officials from both countries were also mentioned as contributing factors to this growing cooperation.

During the same event, author Rajiv K Poddar shared insights about his book. He elaborated on the themes covered in the work, which include personal growth and life lessons. Poddar indicated that his experiences related to China were well received by the Chinese consulate.

Airlines Resume Direct Services

IndiGo airlines marked the resumption of direct flights between India and China by successfully landing a flight from Delhi to Guangzhou on April 28. This flight signifies a revival of air connectivity that had been disrupted earlier, thus enabling easier access for passengers travelling between the two nations.

Following the revival of this route, the Delhi-Guangzhou service is expected to become a popular choice for travellers looking for direct connections. The reintroduction of this air service is indicative of improving ties, reflecting a shift towards more cooperative relations between the countries.

In addition to IndiGo’s efforts, Air China has also reinstated its flight services between Beijing and Delhi. Operating three times a week, this service aims to further boost air connectivity. As reported by the Global Times, the flights are scheduled for Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with economy class fares starting around $523 (approximately 3,570 yuan).

Positive Trends in Bilateral Relations

The recent developments in air services occur in the context of a noticeable warming of bilateral relations between India and China. This shift can be traced back to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Tianjin last year, which helped pave the way for improved interactions between the two nations.

This diplomatic warming is creating opportunities not only in the aviation sector but also for various areas of commercial engagement. Air connectivity, in particular, is considered fundamental for enhancing tourism and cultural exchanges between India and China.

The restoration of direct flight routes and the overall positive atmosphere signify a potential for further growth in bilateral ties. Both countries appear keen on nurturing this relationship, with air travel representing a critical aspect of ongoing collaboration and integration in multiple sectors in the future.
