BSF Personnel Celebrate International Yoga Day at Jaisalmer Border

The CSR Journal Magazine

On June 21, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stationed at various border outposts in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, engaged in yoga sessions to commemorate International Yoga Day. The celebrations unfolded across the region’s sandy landscape, emphasising the significance of yoga in the daily routines of the soldiers. BSF Commandant Vipin Nayak supervised the yoga activities, emphasising the role of this practice in bolstering the physical and mental health of the deployed personnel.

Commandant Nayak articulated the importance of this year’s theme, which focuses on healthy ageing, aiming to promote the benefits of yoga as one ages. He noted that yoga has become an integral aspect of their lifestyle over the last decade, with daily practices now commonplace among the personnel. The Commandant stressed that regular participation in yoga can yield various physiological advantages, particularly for those serving in high-stress environments.

Focus on Physical and Mental Well-being

During his address, Commandant Nayak highlighted yoga’s effectiveness in alleviating stress for border personnel. He explained that for soldiers, engaging in yoga not only serves as a tool for managing stress but also aids in regulating metabolism and blood pressure while fostering mental tranquillity. By integrating yoga into their daily lives, soldiers cultivate a more balanced and health-oriented lifestyle conducive to facing the challenges of their roles.

In preparation for the celebrations, Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma participated in a yoga session alongside members of the women’s police patrol unit at his official residence in Jaipur on the preceding day. This initiative aimed to promote healthy living through yoga practice and included officers from the patrol unit who joined the Chief Minister in the session.

Sharma expressed that yoga transcends being a mere physical exercise; instead, he articulated it as a foundational element for a robust body, a composed mind, and a harmonious life. He emphasised that consistent yoga practise is beneficial in fostering physical strength, mental positivity, and spiritual vitality. He also called upon the public to engage in various Yoga Day activities planned throughout the state.

Preparations for International Yoga Day Events

Further initiatives on this occasion involve organising yoga events at district, block, and Gram Panchayat levels throughout Rajasthan, alongside activities at educational institutions and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. The diverse range of programmes is intended to highlight the benefits of yoga for community health and wellness.

This year marks the twelfth observance of International Yoga Day. The United Nations adopted the day in 2014 based on a proposal by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, promoting it as a global movement aimed at encouraging individuals to explore the benefits of yoga. For the forthcoming International Day of Yoga in 2026, the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” will underscored the practice’s role in fostering active and independent living across various age groups.

Overall, the activities in Rajasthan reflect a broader movement, reinforcing the objective of making yoga an accessible practice that significantly contributes to the well-being of individuals and communities. Events conducted across the state signify an ongoing commitment to improving health through this ancient practice.
