The CSR Journal Magazine

Bobby Deol became visibly emotional while discussing the memory of his father, veteran actor Dharmendra, during an episode of the revived chat show Shekhar Tonite. In a heartfelt dialogue with host Shekhar Suman, Bobby expressed the profound void left by his father’s passing, emphasising that Dharmendra was cherished not only by family but also by countless fans. He noted that regardless of where he travels, people react with affection when they remember his father.

Shekhar Suman also shared his recollections of Dharmendra, highlighting the actor’s warmth and the simplicity with which he engaged with those around him. In the course of their conversation, Suman offered a metaphor comparing a father figure to a large tree, providing shelter and security to the family. He poignantly remarked on how life feels empty in the absence of such a presence.

In response, Bobby connected with Shekhar’s personal experiences of loss, recognising the lingering pain that accompanies such a profound change. He acknowledged Shekhar’s heartbreak over the loss of his elder son, conveying that healing from such tragedies is a long and arduous process.

Dharmendra’s Significance in Bobby’s Life

Describing what Dharmendra represented to him and to many others, Bobby recalled, “For me, my father was someone whom the whole world loved immensely.” He further articulated the sorrow felt not just by their family, but also by the expansive community of fans when his father passed away. He added that the emotional responses he encounters while interacting with people illustrate the exceptional bond that existed between Dharmendra and the public.

Bobby recounted, “We always knew that, but when he left, there was so much pain and sorrow.” His words reflected the lasting impact Dharmendra had on his life and those of others, reinforcing that such a unique individual cannot be replaced. Bobby expressed that his father was indeed a special person, someone who resonated deeply with many.

As the dialogue continued, Bobby illustrated the unparalleled love for Dharmendra, underscoring how his father acted as a source of inspiration for fans and family alike. Bobby’s heartfelt observations provided a glimpse into the enduring legacy of his father, who remains remembered fondly across generations.

Shekhar Suman’s Memories of Dharmendra

Shekhar Suman devoted part of the conversation to highlighting Dharmendra’s innate simplicity. He remarked that the actor treated everyone with kindness, from his family members to household staff and workers at his farmhouse. Shekhar emphasised that this quality illustrated the authenticity and humility with which Dharmendra lived his life.

Recalling specific interactions, Shekhar described how Dharmendra engaged kindly with anyone he encountered, whether it was a gardener or a house helper. Notably, Dharmendra would discuss everyday topics like vegetables and meals, indicating his grounding in simplicity and his ability to connect with ordinary life.

Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89 on November 24, 2025, at his residence in Mumbai. His final film, Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan, was released on January 1, receiving accolades from both critics and audiences.
