Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended his congratulations to the Border Security Force’s (BSF) first-ever all-women mountaineering team for their successful ascent of Mount Everest in Nepal. This accomplishment marks a significant milestone in the history of the BSF. Shah’s appreciation highlighted the spirit of grit and patriotism embodied by the team in their expedition.

In a recent post on social media platform X, Shah expressed that the feat serves as a remarkable illustration of dedication and courage, stating, “Nari Shakti proves BSF’s invincible might.” He commended the team’s contribution as they became part of the BSF’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations by summiting the world’s highest peak, which stands at 8,848.86 metres.

Team Members and Expedition Details

The team summitted early in the morning at 8:00 AM (IST) on May 21, 2026. The team comprised four constables: Kouser Fatima from Ladakh, Munmun Ghosh from West Bengal, Rabeka Singh from Uttarakhand, and Tsering Chorol from Kargil. Their joint effort exemplifies commitment as they navigated the challenges presented by such a significant height.

The BSF officially announced that the team not only reached the peak but also marked the occasion by singing “Vande Mataram.” This act occurred in an environment where others typically rely on oxygen support, illustrating their extraordinary accomplishment and resilience.

During this expedition, the team carried the spirit of nationalism to the summit of Everest, underpinning their work with a sense of pride in their achievements. The BSF’s announcement emphasised the moment’s historical significance, attributing their success to the themes of empowerment and national pride.

Significance of the Expedition

The successful climb of Mount Everest by the BSF all-women team is not just a personal victory but also a moment of collective pride for the nation. The expedition reflects the growing recognition of women’s capabilities in traditionally male-dominated fields. This initiative is part of broader efforts to promote women’s empowerment within various sectors of Indian society.

The BSF’s Diamond Jubilee Year served as an occasion to honour the contributions and achievements of its members, both male and female. This historic expedition adds to the legacy of the force, showcasing its commitment to excellence and resilience. The accomplishments of the female constables represent a significant achievement within the framework of the organisation.

It is also an encouragement for future generations of women, demonstrating that with determination and hard work, they can overcome any challenges. The memorable event serves as a testament to the spirit of unity and strength within the BSF, reflecting on the broader narrative of empowerment and pride in the nation’s capabilities.
