Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the government is fully prepared to engage in comprehensive discussions in Parliament regarding the recent student protests tied to the NEET paper leak. Speaking to reporters on August 12, Shah urged the opposition to formally submit a request to the Speaker by 2 PM to facilitate a debate starting at 3 PM on the same day.

Shah emphasised the government’s willingness to address all facets of the student protests, asserting his readiness to respond to inquiries within the House. He indicated that despite his continual presence in Parliament, the opposition’s actions have hindered the normal functioning of both houses.

He remarked, “Let a time be fixed for the discussion and the opposition should get ready,” referring to prior demands from the opposition that the government take steps for dialogue. Shah reiterated his commitment to answering questions, challenging the opposition’s reluctance to proceed with the discussions.

Concerns Over Disruptions in Parliament

Adding to his remarks, the Home Minister proposed that discussions commence at 3 PM on August 12 and continue until 3 PM the following day. His offer included a promise to answer all questions from the opposition during this timeframe, aiming to clarify the situation surrounding the NEET protests.

Shah declared that “the government has nothing to hide,” highlighting a transparency approach to the ongoing issue. He mentioned his willingness to address why the opposition did not want to engage in discussions, thereby framing the situation as a public concern that needs clarity.

The ongoing tensions stem from accusations of excessive police force during the protests, which have been met with strong responses from the opposition. Shah insisted that rules and established methods for parliamentary discussions should be adhered to, countering any approaches that bypass these protocols.

Opposition’s Reaction to Government’s Call
