Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Deeksharambh Session for the academic year 2026-27 along with the Youth Dialogue Programme at Doon University. This event took place on August 13 in Dehradun, where the Chief Minister expressed his best wishes to the new students as they embark on their academic journey. He highlighted the significance of university life, suggesting it extends beyond academics and examinations to encompass personal growth, innovation, and goal-setting.

New Infrastructure and Facilities Launched

During the inauguration event, CM Dhami officially opened the Biological Sciences Laboratory, which was constructed at a cost of Rs 11.20 crore, as well as a Central Library building that required an investment of Rs 17.39 crore. Additionally, he launched the Doon University Community Radio Station 88.4 FM, stating that these initiatives would significantly enhance the academic and research landscape of the university while contributing positively to the overall development of students’ personalities.

In recognition of Dr BR Ambedkar’s contributions, the Central Library will be renamed in his honour. The Chief Minister also announced the creation of two new positions—Programme Coordinator and Technical Assistant—to ensure the efficient operation of the community radio station. To facilitate transportation for students, two electric buses are set to be provided to the university.

The Chief Minister also indicated plans to strengthen foreign language departments at Doon University, enabling them to deliver skill-based education. Departments for languages including Spanish, German, French, Chinese, and Japanese will be enhanced to broaden educational opportunities for students from various educational institutions across the state.

Focus on Youth Development and Modern Education

Emphasising the role of youth in the nation’s progress, CM Dhami stated that a nation with young, ambitious, and hardworking citizens cannot be held back. He noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance, initiatives such as Make in India, Digital India, Startup India, and Skill India are actively generating new opportunities for young individuals, who are increasingly pursuing entrepreneurship.

The Chief Minister asserted that the current era is characterised by innovation, and the state government is committed to modernising educational structures. In line with the National Education Policy, universities and research institutions will promote contemporary subjects such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Big Data. Projects such as Science City and Astro Park are also underway to foster scientific research and engagement within the state.

Dhami stressed the importance of quality education and research, mentioning that the government is focusing on establishing new colleges and enhancing existing facilities, including women’s hostels, IT laboratories, and examination centres. Efforts are being made to alleviate the shortage of teaching staff through fresh recruitment initiatives, and grants of up to Rs 18 lakh will be provided under the Chief Minister’s Research Promotion Scheme to boost research quality and encourage outstanding work.

Supporting Youth for Competitive Examinations

The government has also put measures in place to support individuals preparing for competitive examinations. Those who pass written examinations for UPSC, NDA, and CDS will receive financial assistance of up to Rs 50,000 for interview preparations. Dhami assured that the aim is to create a transparent system to protect the hard work of young candidates, bolstered by one of the country’s strictest anti-copying laws.

As a result of these transparent practices, over 34,000 young individuals have been appointed to government positions in the past five years. The Chief Minister highlighted that the government’s vision for youth development transcends mere employment in government roles; initiatives are being introduced to enable self-reliance through various schemes, including the Chief Minister’s Self-Employment Scheme.

By promoting local sectors such as homestays, organic farming, and tourism, the government aims to generate employment opportunities, encouraging youth to remain in their native regions rather than seeking jobs elsewhere. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that both the youth and the water resources of Uttarakhand serve the interests of the state. The Chief Minister challenged students to seize opportunities, develop their capabilities, and contribute to nation-building, invoking the spirit of Swami Vivekananda in his address.
