In a major political announcement, Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday pledged government jobs for one family member of each of the 321 party workers allegedly killed in the aftermath of the 2021 Assembly elections, marking a significant move by the new government in West Bengal to address the legacy of post-poll violence.

Speaking at a high-voltage election rally in the Falta Assembly constituency of South 24 Parganas, the Chief Minister said the state government stands firmly with the families of those who lost their lives during the violence that followed the 2021 polls. “Following the 2021 elections, 321 of our workers across districts were brutally murdered. The new government will ensure that one member from each of these families is provided with a suitable government job,” he said.

The announcement comes amid heightened political focus on the issue after the BJP’s sweeping victory in the 2026 Assembly elections, where the party secured over 200 seats to form the government. The party had consistently alleged widespread persecution and targeted attacks on its workers and supporters during the tenure of the previous administration.

Rehabilitation measures for affected workers

Addressing party workers and supporters in Falta, Adhikari also announced special rehabilitation measures for those affected by political violence in the region. He said the government would extend financial assistance and social support to BJP workers who were attacked, falsely implicated in legal cases, or forced to abandon their homes and livelihoods during the previous regime.

The Falta and nearby Diamond Harbour areas have witnessed political tensions in recent years, particularly during the Panchayat and Lok Sabha elections. Several local BJP workers had alleged intimidation, vandalism of property, and displacement due to political violence.

Ahead of crucial Falta election

With a crucial election scheduled in the Falta Assembly constituency on May 21, the Chief Minister used the platform to reassure party cadres. “For those who suffered attacks, false cases, or loss of livelihood, the government is arranging special rehabilitation. In this new era, no one will have to live in fear,” he asserted.

The announcement was met with strong reactions from party supporters at the rally, as the state government signaled its intent to address past grievances while heading into another key electoral contest.
