Abhijeet Dipke Launches ‘School Thik Karo’ Campaign for Education Reform

The CSR Journal Magazine

Abhijeet Dipke, convenor of the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), has announced the ‘School Thik Karo’ campaign, intended to highlight the deficiencies in government schools across India. The campaign will be launched on Independence Day in Hingoli, Maharashtra. Dipke emphasised that there has been a lack of political and public commitment to the education sector that needs urgent addressing.

While en route to his village, Santuk Pimpri, Dipke pointed out that no significant improvements have been made in government schools irrespective of the ruling political party. He suggested that the public has become more aware of educational needs and can influence government priorities by questioning the current infrastructure and facilities in such establishments.

The focus of the campaign will be to enhance the infrastructure and functioning of government schools situated in rural areas. An emphasis on community involvement is expected to generate greater awareness regarding the current state of education in these schools.

Concerns Over Financial Priorities

Dipke raised concerns about the funding allocation towards public events and promotional activities, while severe neglect continues to characterise rural schools. He referred specifically to a Tiranga rally in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, which had banners placed every 40 to 50 feet. Although he acknowledged the rally as a positive initiative, he questioned the necessity of such expenditures in light of more pressing needs in the education sector.

According to Dipke, the funds set aside for political publicity could have been better invested in enhancing educational facilities for children in rural areas. He expressed a sentiment that these resources should prioritise the needs of students instead of being allocated to ephemeral visual displays.

His remarks highlight a pervasive issue where financial resources are directed towards events rather than sustainable educational development, raising questions about governmental responsibilities regarding school conditions.

Community Engagement and Accountability

Dipke has previously called for parents to actively engage in social audits to assess the basic facilities available in their local government schools. He urged village sarpanches to take ownership of school infrastructure improvements and ensure that resources are allocated efficiently.

The campaign serves as a reminder of the increasing conversation surrounding the fundamental requirements for education in India. Dipke has been vocal in comparing the construction of new governmental buildings to the neglect of rural educational facilities, questioning why similar investment has not extended to schools.

He articulated the need to consider the future of agriculture and labour sectors by investing in education for their children, urging that adequate educational conditions should be guaranteed for all students.

Furthermore, he noted that many children in rural regions face significant obstacles to education, such as lengthy travel distances and the absence of basic amenities like drinking water and toilets in schools. The ‘School Thik Karo’ initiative aims to articulate these daily challenges within public discourse.

By promoting dialogue among parents, village representatives, and communities, Dipke aims to facilitate visible improvements in school infrastructure. The campaign strives not only to repair existing problems but also to ensure that government schools provide essential conditions for effective learning.
