The CSR Journal Magazine

A 21-year-old man was arrested in Shahjahanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly posing as an Indian Army Brigadier. The operation was carried out by the Station Headquarters Shahjahanpur in coordination with local ex-servicemen. The suspect was found wearing a brigadier’s uniform and was reportedly accompanied by individuals impersonating security personnel, prompting a formal investigation from local police.

The arrest took place on June 12, 2026, after officials received intelligence over the previous two months concerning the movements of a suspected impostor in Shahjahanpur and surrounding areas. The repeated reports raised significant concerns regarding an individual presenting himself as a high-ranking military officer.

Colonel JS Jaglan, the Administrative Commandant of Station Headquarters Shahjahanpur, spearheaded the operation with assistance from local ex-servicemen to ascertain the suspect’s identity. A plan was devised to invite the individual to a function at the Shaheed Museum, under the guise of recognising local students, which allowed officials to confirm his identity discreetly.

Identification and Impersonation Tools

Upon arriving at the museum, Aryan Verma was apprehended alongside his associates. Authorities reported that Verma was dressed in a brigadier’s uniform and was travelling in a Tata Harrier vehicle displaying a one-star plate and an Army Headquarters flag. This attire and vehicle were believed to contribute to his impersonation.

During the operation, officials discovered several items allegedly used to facilitate the impersonation. These included a counterfeit Brigadier identity card, an air pistol, an AMC regimental cane, and various items that resembled military equipment and insignia. Two men accompanying Verma were reportedly dressed in black and claimed to be National Security Guard (NSG) commandos.

The vehicle’s driver was also reportedly in possession of a Government of India identity card. These findings raised further suspicion regarding the intentions behind their actions.

Legal Proceedings and Implications of the Incident

Following the operation, Aryan Verma, along with his associates and the recovered materials, was handed over to the Sadar police station in Shahjahanpur for further legal actions and investigations. The Army expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts of military authorities and the ex-servicemen community in this matter.

In an official statement, the Army highlighted that the successful operation exemplified the vigilance and professionalism of the authorities involved. The Army also mentioned that such impersonation of military personnel and the unauthorised use of military insignia are considered serious offences that will be addressed decisively through lawful channels.

Additionally, the Army affirmed its ongoing collaboration with civil authorities and the veteran community as investigations continue to explore the motive behind the alleged impersonation and any potential broader implications. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding the dignity and honour of the Armed Forces.
