WWDC 2026: Apple Expected To Unveil Its Biggest Siri Upgrade Yet

The CSR Journal Magazine

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 kicks off later today, and while the event is expected to bring updates across iOS, macOS, iPadOS and other platforms, much of the attention is centred on one product: Siri.

Nearly two years after Apple introduced Apple Intelligence, the company is still playing catch-up in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence race. Rivals such as OpenAI and Google have pushed ahead with increasingly capable AI assistants, while Siri has remained largely limited in comparison.

That could finally change at WWDC 2026, where Apple is widely expected to unveil a significantly upgraded version of Siri designed to be more conversational, personalised and capable of handling complex tasks across devices.

Siri Could Become A True AI Assistant

According to recent reports, Apple’s next-generation Siri is internally known as “Campo” and forms a central part of the company’s evolving AI strategy.

The upgraded assistant is expected to move beyond simple voice commands and become a broader AI companion that can work across the iPhone, iPad and Mac. Siri may gain deeper access to personal information stored on a user’s device and Apple account, enabling it to understand context and perform more personalised actions.

The assistant is reportedly being developed to understand what is on a user’s screen, navigate within apps and complete multi-step tasks using natural language commands.

For instance, Siri could draft emails using information gathered from messages, notes, contacts and calendar entries. It may also be able to check a user’s availability before scheduling appointments and identify conflicts between events automatically.

Such capabilities would bring Siri much closer to the AI assistants offered by competitors, which increasingly function as digital agents rather than voice-controlled search tools.

New Interface And Chatbot Features Expected

Apple is also believed to be preparing a redesigned Siri experience.

While Siri received a visual refresh alongside Apple Intelligence, reports suggest another interface overhaul is on the way. Instead of appearing as a glowing border around the display, Siri may launch directly through the Dynamic Island with a new dark-themed animation.

A new “Search or Ask” interface is also rumoured. Accessible through a swipe gesture, the feature could combine traditional search functionality with AI-powered assistance. The page may include Siri suggestions, recently used apps, recent searches and contextual information such as weather updates.

Search results are expected to appear as rich information cards covering news, sports, weather, contacts, messages, reminders and other personal data.

One of the most significant changes could be Siri’s evolution into a chatbot-like experience. Reports suggest users may be able to maintain ongoing conversations with Siri and switch between external AI models such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude when needed.

The upgraded assistant may also support multiple requests within a single prompt, allowing users to perform several actions simultaneously.

AI Features To Expand Across Apple’s Ecosystem

Beyond Siri, Apple is expected to announce a broader push into artificial intelligence across its software ecosystem.

Developers could gain access to a new CoreAI framework designed to simplify AI integration within third-party applications. Apple may also open parts of its AI infrastructure to developers building AI-powered agents and assistants.

The company is reportedly working on new AI features for Photos as well. These could include image expansion tools, photo reframing capabilities and improvements to the existing Clean Up feature, which removes unwanted objects from images.

Visual Intelligence features may also receive upgrades, enabling users to identify nutrition labels, recognise contact information and extract useful data directly from images.

Alongside AI announcements, Apple is expected to unveil updates to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27. The company is likely to continue refining its Liquid Glass design language while focusing on performance, security and stability improvements.

Reports also suggest iOS 27 may include foundational changes aimed at supporting Apple’s long-rumoured foldable iPhone, which could debut later this year.

Although Apple is expected to showcase many of these features at WWDC, the rollout may take place gradually. The new Siri is expected to arrive as part of iOS 27 later this year, potentially alongside the launch of the iPhone 18 series in September.

For Apple, WWDC 2026 could represent more than just another software event. It may be the company’s opportunity to demonstrate that Siri can finally compete in an AI landscape increasingly dominated by conversational assistants and intelligent digital agents.
