Women Maintain Lead in NEET Qualification Rates

The CSR Journal Magazine

The recent NEET (UG) examination results revealed that women make up a significant portion of successful candidates, accounting for over 58 per cent of the 11.21 lakh qualifiers. This statistic highlights a continuing trend from 2025, where female candidates have reportedly outperformed their male counterparts in one of the country’s most competitive medical entrance exams.

According to the National Testing Agency (NTA), 11.21 lakh candidates succeeded in the NEET (UG) 2026 after approximately 20 lakh individuals appeared for the test. Women not only outnumbered men, but also demonstrated a higher qualification rate, reinforcing their growing academic prowess in this high-stakes examination.

The qualification rates displayed a remarkable contrast: 56.8 per cent of female candidates who appeared for the test successfully qualified, compared to 55.1 per cent of male participants. This indicates a consistent performance advantage for women in this arena.

Significant Representation Among Top Scorers

Women have also made impressive strides among the highest scorers in NEET (UG) 2026. Of the 138 candidates achieving scores of 690 marks or higher, notable female candidates secured top All India Ranks (AIR). The list includes AIR 5 Kudale Shravani Krishna from Maharashtra, AIR 6 Riya Ranjan from Bihar, and several others from various states.

In total, 19 candidates scored above 700 marks, while 138 exceeded the 690-mark benchmark. The strong presence of female aspirants in high-ranking positions underscores their capabilities and dedication in the medical field.

While the two top ranks were secured by male candidates, the overall results showcase a different narrative, with women continuing to demonstrate their strengths in various capacities during this examination.

Comparison with Previous Year’s Results

The outcomes of NEET (UG) 2026 reflect a pattern observed in the previous year’s results. In NEET (UG) 2025, women comprised 58.45 per cent of qualifiers, totalling 7,22,462 out of 12,36,531 successful candidates. Conversely, male qualifiers numbered 5,14,063.

Despite the dominance of female candidates in the overall qualification numbers in 2025, the highest ranks were predominantly claimed by males, with the top-ranking female candidate, Avika Aggarwal from Delhi, achieving AIR 5. Other notable female scorers included Aashi Singh and Badhe Siddhi Manjabapu, who achieved AIR 12 and AIR 26 respectively.

The trends observed in these two years indicate a sustained change in the landscape of medical entrance examinations in India, illustrating the increasing prominence and success of female candidates.

A Continuing Shift in Medical Education

Although the top two ranks for NEET (UG) 2026 were awarded to male candidates, the overall findings signify a different reality regarding the performance of female candidates. With women accounting for over 58 per cent of the 2026 qualifiers and demonstrating higher qualifications rates than men, the results suggest an ongoing evolution in India’s medical education sector.

This sustained trend of female success, coupled with their significant representation in ranking brackets, highlights the role of women as integral contributors to the future of the medical field in the country. As they continue to excel, female aspirants are poised to influence the next wave of medical professionals in India.
