According to district officials, the recent recovery of another body from the Wayanad landslide site has raised the total number of confirmed fatalities to seven. This body was found near a river adjacent to the disaster area on Friday, July 10, 2026. Authorities are currently working to identify the remains, which may belong to Rakesh Guchait, a surveyor from West Bengal, or Vikram Rana, a construction manager from Himachal Pradesh, the last two workers unaccounted for as of the latest updates.

Search operations resumed at 8 am on Friday, marking the fourth day since the landslide took place. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire and Rescue Services, and local police have mobilised heavy machinery to aid in clearing mud and debris from the scene. Prior to this recovery, six bodies had been retrieved from the site by Thursday.

The landslide occurred on July 7, 2026, during the construction of the Anakkompoyil–Meppadi tunnel project, which aims to enhance connectivity between Wayanad and Kozhikode districts.
