US President Donald Trump Declares Himself As “The Peace President”

The CSR Journal Magazine

US President Donald Trump has asserted that he has played a significant role in diffusing several global conflicts. On April 18, he shared a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, which featured a digital poster that labelled him as “The Peace President.” This post was shared by the account known as “Trump War Room.”

In his statements, Trump specifically highlighted his involvement in the India-Pakistan situation, claiming that his interventions prevented widespread loss of life. During a speech at the Turning Point USA event in Phoenix, Arizona, he stated, “I am the peacemaker. I am the one who settled eight wars. I settled a war that would have killed 30 to 50 million people, India-Pakistan.”

Additionally, he expanded on his assertions, saying that he had ended eight wars, potentially increasing the tally to ten if one includes conflicts in Iran and Lebanon. He claimed, “Think of how many lives we’ve saved,” as he spoke about the implications of his diplomatic efforts.

Negotiations and Developments in the Region

While discussing recent diplomatic efforts, Trump spoke about the ceasefire negotiations involving Lebanon. He noted that the United States had played a crucial role in achieving what he termed an “unprecedented ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon,” stating, “We will make Lebanon great again.” This situation has remained tense as it had not been resolved in 78 years.

Trump reported that discussions with Iran were ongoing, expressing optimism about the process. He mentioned that talks would continue through the weekend and indicated that a US blockade would be lifted once a “signed agreement” was in place.

The US-Iran negotiations are expected to resume in Islamabad shortly, with Iranian officials indicating that delegations will arrive in Pakistan. Trump also mentioned potential significant developments in West Asia, including recent advancements concerning the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Position on Maritime Activities

In a response to Trump’s announcements, Iran has affirmed that it will maintain strict control over maritime activities through the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian authorities stated that any passage must adhere to designated routes and receive approvals from Tehran, amidst rising regional tensions and security discussions with the US.

The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, reiterated that the regulations governing the Strait will be determined by on-ground realities rather than through social media assertions. He stated, “Whether the Strait is open or closed and the regulations governing it will be determined by the field, not by social media.”

Trump also reiterated his stance that the naval blockade will remain until all agreements with Iran are fully negotiated and executed. He emphasised the strength of the US Navy as a deterrent, stating, “During my first term, we built a blockade with the greatest navy in the world.”
