Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol Attends Parliament in Wheelchair After Leg Fracture

The CSR Journal Magazine

Murlidhar Mohol, the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, attended a special three-day parliamentary session on April 17, 2026, using a wheelchair. This was due to a recent leg fracture that he has sustained. He was seen being wheeled into the Parliament complex, with a brace on his right leg, which indicates his current medical condition.

Parliamentary Discussions on Key Legislation

During the session, the Lok Sabha actively engaged in discussions surrounding the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, which aims to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies. Additionally, the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which will extend these provisions to the regions of Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir, was also under consideration. Furthermore, the Delimitation Bill, which seeks to increase and redraw Lok Sabha constituencies, was slated to increase the number of constituencies to 850.

The discussion, which began the previous afternoon, continued late into the night, concluding at 1.25 am. The legislators were focused on ensuring that essential provisions were thoroughly examined and debated as they prepared for the potential passage of these significant laws.

Murlidhar Mohol had previously mentioned on March 14 that he would be taking a month-long break following surgery for an injury he had sustained nearly 29 years earlier during a wrestling match in Kolhapur. His long-standing discomfort had only recently escalated, necessitating surgical intervention as advised by medical professionals.

Background of the Minister’s Injury

Murlidhar Mohol’s injury dates back to his wrestling days in Kolhapur, where he had competed vigorously. Despite the initial trauma, he had overlooked the issue for years until the increasing pain prompted him to seek medical advice. According to Mohol, doctors advised that surgery was imperative, leaving him with no other alternatives for relief.

He expressed that, beyond the physical discomfort, the main concern was his inability to manage responsibilities related to his Pune Lok Sabha constituency, national travel, and preparations for the upcoming Maharashtra Kesari wrestling competition. He was particularly anxious about fulfilling the obligations tied to these duties while recuperating from his surgery.

Mohol stated, “More than the pain of the injury, it is the concern about these responsibilities that troubles me.” He conveyed hope for a swift recovery and expressed gratitude for the support and blessings he has received from the public.

Future Plans Post-Recovery

Murlidhar Mohol is optimistic about resuming his work within a month, which he believes will allow him to return to public service with renewed vigour. His commitment to his responsibilities suggests that he is keen to re-engage with his constituents and contribute to ongoing parliamentary work in a timely manner.

As he focuses on recovery, he remains determined to uphold his duties and continue championing initiatives that benefit his region and constituents. The upcoming weeks will be crucial for both his rehabilitation and his active involvement in legislative matters.
