Twin Brothers Karan and Arjun Missing for 12 Days in Ranchi, Family Questions Police Response

The CSR Journal Magazine

A case concerning the disappearance of twin brothers, Karan and Arjun, from the Dhurwa area of Ranchi has raised alarms within the community and has spurred political discussions. The boys have been missing for twelve days since their last known sighting near Shalimar Market. Their parents filed a First Information Report (FIR) on June 1, initiating police involvement in the search.

According to police reports, the twins, aged twelve, were last seen at Hatia railway station alongside another child on June 3, shortly after their disappearance. However, no further sightings or leads have emerged since that date. This ongoing absence of information has led to increasing frustration among the families of the missing children, who have expressed concerns regarding the police’s effectiveness in managing the investigation.

Karan and Arjun’s mother, Dolly Devi, has been actively searching for her sons, voicing strong allegations that the police have not undertaken an adequate search operation. Her distress heightened following a troubling phone call on Friday evening, which she claimed was from an unidentified caller in Karnataka suggesting that the children had been involved in an accident and were currently hospitalised there. The family is currently waiting for the police to trace the call for further clarification.

Political Responses and Criticism of Police Actions

The ongoing case has drawn political attention, highlighted by a visit from BJP state president and Rajya Sabha MP, Aditya Sahu. Sahu met with the families of the missing children, including Karan, Arjun, and another child, Shiva. Following these discussions, he raised concerns about discrepancies between the family’s statements and the FIR filed by the police, alleging that the police account did not accurately reflect their version of events.

Sahu’s visit underscored a broader critique of the state’s handling of child safety and reported missing children cases. In a statement, he referenced another recent case involving an eighteen-month-old girl, Aditi, who vanished from Ranchi’s Kokar area, alleging a lack of police engagement in tracing her whereabouts. Sahu accused the government of neglecting law and order, stating that incidents involving missing children have been on the rise in the region.

The BJP has announced plans for a torchlight procession set for June 13, aimed at demanding the swift recovery of the children and addressing alleged police inaction. Sahu called on party members and local residents to join the rally, warning of further actions should the situation remain unresolved.

Police Investigations and Community Concerns

In response to the criticisms regarding the police’s handling of the case, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rakesh Ranjan stated that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established under the guidance of the City Superintendent of Police. He assured the public that investigators are scrutinising the case from all potential angles to ensure a thorough investigation.

Dhurwa police station in-charge, Arun Kumar Mahtha, confirmed that search operations have been intensified in the area. He expressed optimism regarding the possibility of locating the missing twins soon. Mahtha also mentioned that the twins had a history of leaving home without informing their parents, suggesting there might be other factors at play.

The families of the missing children continue to seek answers and accountability from the authorities, prompting a community call for heightened vigilance and action surrounding child safety in Jharkhand.
