Trump Claims Iran Ready For Deal, Says Oil Prices Will ‘Plummet’ Soon

The CSR Journal Magazine

US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday, that Iran is eager to establish a deal, predicting that the ongoing hostilities would conclude swiftly. Speaking during a press conference, he emphasised that global oil prices would see a significant reduction shortly due to an oversupply in the market. He stated, “There’s so much oil out there, they’re going to come plummeting down.” Trump’s comments focused on the optimistic potential for a resolution to the conflict and its subsequent impact on oil markets.

He reiterated, “We are going to end that war very quickly. They want to make a deal so badly… You are going to see oil prices plummet.” His remarks reflect a belief that diplomatic efforts could bring about immediate changes in both geopolitical tensions and economic conditions.

Senate Passes Resolution to Limit War Powers

On the same day, the US Senate approved a resolution aimed at constraining President Trump’s powers regarding military action against Iran. This resolution passed with a vote of 50-47, with four Republican senators joining the majority of Democrats in support. This marked the eighth attempt by Senate Democrats to pass a similar measure. Introduced by Democratic Senator Tim Kaine, the resolution would require the President to withdraw armed forces from hostilities involving Iran unless expressly authorised by a declaration of war or military force authorisation.

The four Republican senators who voted with the Democrats included Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rand Paul, and Bill Cassidy. Senator Adam Schiff expressed gratitude for the bipartisan effort, stating the Senate Democrats had successfully compelled a vote to terminate what he described as an “unconstitutional war.” Senator Bernie Sanders also voiced support for the resolution, highlighting the American public’s opposition to unnecessary military spending.

Schiff communicated via ‘X’ that he was pleased to see a cooperative spirit in addressing war powers and expressed hope that such measures would help curtail military intervention.

Negotiations and Military Actions on Hold

These developments come in the context of ongoing negotiations for a peace deal between the US and Iran. Earlier discussions involved halting a planned military strike against Iran, following appeals from Gulf leaders, including Qatar’s Emir, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, and the UAE’s President. Trump noted that serious negotiations were underway, which led to the decision to delay military actions that had been previously scheduled.

In a detailed post on Truth Social, Trump recalled that he had been urged by leaders from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE to defer the attack in hopes of reaching an accord acceptable to the US and all countries in the Middle East. He asserted, “This Deal will include, importantly, NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOR IRAN.”

Despite delaying the imminent attack, Trump affirmed the military’s readiness to execute a large-scale operation at a moment’s notice should negotiations fail. This maintains a backdrop of tension as diplomatic efforts continue alongside military readiness.
