Thousands Protest in Lucknow Over NEET Examination Issues

The CSR Journal Magazine

Thousands of aspirants for competitive examinations, along with teachers from various parts of Uttar Pradesh, congregated at Lucknow’s Eco Garden on Friday to voice their discontent. The protest mainly targeted concerns surrounding repeated paper leaks, delays in recruitment processes, discrepancies in examination results, and ongoing legal challenges faced by government job applicants. The demonstration attracted participants from districts such as Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Sultanpur, Barabanki, Amethi, Unnao, and Hardoi, becoming one of the largest student-led protests in recent times.

Among the attendees was Abhijeet Dipke, chief of the Cockroach Janata Party, who addressed the crowd with his supporters. His presence, however, led to tensions as some protesters expressed their disapproval of political involvement, insisting that the protest should be a student-led initiative. Organisers later reaffirmed that the event was not politically affiliated, revealing that Dipke had not been invited to address the gathering.

Voices of Frustration Among Aspirants

Frustration was palpable among the protesters as many expressed their dismay over what they described as a continual cycle of examination irregularities that have diminished their confidence in the recruitment system. A student from Prayagraj, Roshan Kumar, articulated his concerns about the systemic issues, stating that paper leaks adversely affect the future of countless students. He highlighted a troubling pattern of controversies surrounding various examinations, including NEET and UP Police Sub-Inspector recruitment, which undermines the years of preparation students commit.

An additional protester, Hemant Pandey from Lucknow, pointed to the pervasive corruption that he claimed undermined the recruitment process. He lamented the lack of concern for the future of young people, asserting that systemic failures repeatedly disadvantaged students dedicated to their career paths.

Teachers from coaching institutes also joined the demonstration, emphasizing that examination irregularities not only impact students but also disrupt the educational framework. Varun, a teacher from Prayagraj, remarked on the substantial sacrifices made by students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. He stated that parents invest significant resources in coaching and accommodation, and any disruption due to administrative failures is naturally met with frustration.

Students Assert Independence from Political Parties

A significant aspect of the protest was the strong resistance by students against any form of political participation. In response to inquiries about the Cockroach Janata Party’s support, protest organisers and participants reiterated that the movement was intended solely for students. Varun stated that any backing was welcome, but they would not allow the protest platform to be politicised.

Angad Singh, an aspirant from Jaunpur, echoed similar sentiments and warned against the potential exploitation of the protest for political gain. He remarked that lapses in examination integrity were being monetised at the expense of students’ trust in the system. He firmly stated that any attempt by political parties, whether the Cockroach Janata Party or others, to hijack their cause would be resisted.

During the event, some individuals carrying posters for the Cockroach Janata Party sparked a brief period of tension as segments of the student gathering voiced their objections. Police monitored the situation closely, with intelligence personnel and senior officers maintaining a visible presence at the venue. Lucknow Joint Commissioner of Police Bablu Kumar oversaw security arrangements, supported by drone surveillance to ensure crowd control throughout the demonstration. Heavy police presence and barricades were established to manage the protest safely.
