The CSR Journal Magazine

The Tamil Nadu government has announced that it will only procure air-conditioned buses in the future, as stated by Transport Minister Vijay Tamilan Parthiban. During a press conference, he emphasised Chief Minister Vijay’s commitment to ensuring that the public can travel comfortably and extensively using these new buses.

Parthiban made these comments on the side of an event held on behalf of the ruling Tamil Nadu Vanniar Katchi (TVK) in Salem on Sunday. He highlighted the Chief Minister’s vision to establish a comprehensive bus network that reaches even the most remote areas of Tamil Nadu.

Focus on Passenger Comfort and Accessibility

According to Parthiban, the Chief Minister has stressed that every bus in the network should be equipped with facilities that prioritise passenger comfort. He mentioned that after a recent personal travel experience on a government bus, Vijay expressed a strong desire for all new buses to feature air conditioning capabilities.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance public transport services in the state and aims to improve overall passenger experience. The government plans to upgrade existing infrastructure and introduce modern amenities in its fleet to meet the needs of commuters.

During the announcement, he also referred to the importance of connectivity in the state. By enhancing the transport network, the government seeks to ensure that residents have access to reliable travel options no matter where they are located.

New Fleet of Buses Launched

Additionally, the Chief Minister recently inaugurated a fleet of 300 new buses, comprising 164 diesel buses and 136 BS-VI compliant CNG buses. The total expenditure for this new procurement is reported to be Rs 127.21 crore. These vehicles are set to operate from major transit hubs, including Koyambedu and Kilambakkam, aimed at minimising waiting times for commuters and ensuring efficient transport services.

At the flag-off ceremony, Vijay interacted with public transport staff and highlighted the significance of this initiative in enhancing state transportation. Various senior ministers and officials from the state Transport Department attended the event, reflecting the importance of this project within the Tamil Nadu government’s agenda.

With these steps, the Tamil Nadu government is pursuing modernisation of its public transport network, aspiring to offer residents better connectivity and a more enjoyable travel experience across the southern state. This development aligns with ongoing efforts to modernise transport facilities in Tamil Nadu and support infrastructural growth.
