“Stop Gambling, Children Deserve Responsible Education System”: Rahul Gandhi After NEET Candidate Assigned Centre in Abu Dhabi

The CSR Journal Magazine

Rahul Gandhi has raised concerns regarding the Indian education system following the alarming incident where a NEET-UG 2026 re-examination candidate from Nagpur was allocated an examination centre in Abu Dhabi. The announcement was made on June 20, just a day before the scheduled examination set for June 21. This situation has stirred significant distress not only for the student but also for their family.

Reportedly, the candidate, who had been preparing diligently for the NEET re-exam, experienced considerable anxiety upon discovering the location of the examination centre via his admit card. The individual, who had opted for Nagpur as a preferred location, found himself facing the prospect of international travel without a passport or financial means to journey abroad.

In his statement on social media platform X, Gandhi expressed his dismay, highlighting the emotional toll this situation has had on the student. He elaborated, noting that the candidate cried throughout the night and felt compelled to forgo the examination due to the unexpected allocation.

Criticism of National Testing Agency and Government Policies

Gandhi directed his criticism towards the National Testing Agency (NTA), questioning how such a critical error could occur in the first place. He argued that no student should encounter barriers that prevent them from reaching their designated examination centre, which should ideally be based in their home city.

Furthermore, Gandhi alleged that the current education system was taking a toll on students’ mental health and financial stability. He described the situation as an “extortion” of students’ resources and time, emphasising the urgent need for reform in the way educational authorities conduct examinations.

The Congress leader stressed the importance of building a responsible and sensitive educational framework, asserting that the nation’s children deserve better treatment from examination authorities. He reiterated the demand for an accountable education system that prioritises students’ well-being over profit.

Resolution for the Student Achieved after Intervention

In light of the uproar generated by this incident, NTA Director General Abhishek Singh later announced a resolution to the situation, confirming that the discrepancy regarding the Nagpur student’s examination centre has been addressed. Singh reported that the candidate has now been reassigned to a centre in Nagpur, alleviating the anxiety that had been caused.

Prior to the rescheduling of the NEET examination due to a paper leak controversy, the student was originally permitted to take the test at Saraswati Vidyalaya in Nagpur. However, the last-minute change to an international location catalysed widespread outrage and concern.

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential pitfalls within the educational assessment framework, calling into question the efficacy of current processes and the broader implications on student mental health and academic success. As the examination date approaches, it highlights the critical need for oversight in educational organisations, ensuring that all candidates are treated fairly and justly.
