Sonam Wangchuk, an activist known for his contributions to social causes, paid tribute at Rajghat on July 27, following his release from a medical facility in Gurugram. Accompanied by his wife, Gitanjali Angmo, he honoured Mahatma Gandhi, reflecting on the significance of non-violent protest in contemporary society.

Wangchuk addressed the media, highlighting the peaceful nature of the recent Cockroach Janata Party-led movement. He expressed gratitude to the youth and citizens who participated in the demonstrations, emphasising that their achievements were not the result of aggression but rather through a commitment to dialogue and peaceful resistance.

He noted that his visit to Rajghat served as a reminder of Gandhi’s influence, and underscored that his methods remain pertinent even after a century. Wangchuk reiterated the need for peaceful means to resolve disputes, not only in India but globally as well.

The recent agitation led by student groups over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations has resulted in significant governmental changes.
