Snabbit Secures $56 Million in Funding Amidst Rising Competition in Home Services

The CSR Journal Magazine

Snabbit has successfully raised $56 million, equating to approximately Rs 530 crore, in its latest funding initiative, underlining the escalating interest from investors in the on-demand home services sector in India. This funding round was co-led by Susquehanna Venture Capital and Mirae Asset Venture Investments, with support from Bertelsmann India Investments, which increased its stake in the company. Other existing investors, including Nexus Venture Partners, Lightspeed, and Elevation Capital, also contributed to this significant round of funding.

Over the past two years, Bengaluru-based Snabbit has raised a total of $112 million, significantly increasing its valuation to an estimated $350 million to $360 million. This uptick in value reflects a growing confidence among investors in the burgeoning segment known as instant home services.

Aayush Agarwal, the founder, emphasized that while the funding total is notable, a critical statistic for the company’s operations is that experts travel a median distance of 247 metres between jobs. This metric, according to Agarwal, is pivotal in explaining the rationale behind the recent closure of their Series D funding.

Business Model and Operational Strategies

Snabbit’s operational model centres on creating dense, hyperlocal clusters where the interaction between demand and supply is optimally positioned. This strategy aims to ensure that jobs are located close to each other, thereby facilitating quicker service delivery, which in turn enhances earnings for workers and improves overall unit economics for the platform.

The company has reported a substantial increase in its daily job completions, with figures quadrupling in the last six months. In some micro-markets, job completions have exceeded 1,000 per day. Additionally, Snabbit claims to have halved its operational burn per job during the same timeframe, a combination of factors that has attracted investor interest.

The firm operates in a domain that is increasingly seen as the next significant area within the convenience economy. Users have the ability to book services such as cleaning and dishwashing via an app, often enjoying rapid turnaround times. Much like the transformations witnessed in restaurants through food delivery apps and in transport with ride-hailing services, Snabbit aspires to revolutionise domestic work.

Future Plans and Market Landscape

Despite its ambitions, Snabbit acknowledges the intricacies of scaling within a labour-intensive market where factors such as service quality, trust, and consistency are as essential as speed. The company is focusing its efforts on fewer cities, which has allowed it to build depth in its services rather than rushing to expand geographically.

Agarwal noted that even with a limited geographic reach, the company has established itself as a market leader. Moving forward, Snabbit aims to broaden its service offerings, having already pioneered the “house help” category within app-based services. The next phase of their development will involve introducing additional services, including home cooking assistance.

India’s home services market is projected to be worth tens of billions of dollars, yet it remains predominantly informal. Most households currently depend on local networks for domestic help. Startups are striving to formalise this landscape by providing on-demand access, standardised pricing, and digital discovery.

As competition intensifies, particularly from major players like Urban Company, this recent funding round highlights investor confidence in enterprises that exhibit both growth potential and improving unit economics, especially in a sector that has historically faced challenges with profitability. Agarwal stated that while strides have been made, the journey ahead is extensive, indicating the dynamism in the drive to digitalise household services.
