Shilpa Shinde Revisits Allegations from Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain Controversy

The CSR Journal Magazine

Shilpa Shinde has revisited her long-standing dispute with the creators of the television show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, almost a decade after her departure in 2016. During an appearance on the podcast hosted by Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiya, Shinde claimed that the sexual harassment allegations she filed against producer Sanjay Kohli were untrue. She suggested that she had no alternative but to make the complaint at that time, which she stated was later resolved along with her outstanding payments.

This revelation has reignited a controversy that originated with her exit from the series, subsequently escalating into contract disputes, interactions with industry bodies, and ultimately the filing and withdrawal of a sexual harassment FIR in 2018. The timing of Shinde’s remarks has prompted questions about the events that transpired between her and the producers, as well as the reasons for her recent discussion on the issue.

In the podcast, Shinde explained, “Nobody knows this, and I am not afraid of telling the truth. I filed a sexual harassment case against my producer because I had no other option. Eventually, I got out of that situation because the matter was settled.” Her remarks hint at deeper conflicts and unresolved issues she faced during her time with the show.

Initial Disputes and Exit

Shilpa Shinde’s exit from Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain was marked by allegations of mental harassment from the production team. Following her departure, the producers issued a legal notice, claiming that she breached her contract. Shinde stated the difficulties arose when the production house requested her to sign an exclusivity agreement, which would prevent her from participating in other projects.

Shinde argued that such a requirement was unreasonable and would hinder her career opportunities. She asserted that she never signed such a contract and stepped in to complete the role after Rashami Desai left. Reports suggested she sought a pay increase and independent costume design services, leading to further claims of preferential treatment towards co-stars. In her view, her demands were justified based on her status on the show.

Further complicating the situation, Shinde alleged conversations with her co-star Saumya Tandon regarding her concerns yielded no constructive responses. Tandon reportedly indicated that the industry standard was not supportive of such requests, leading to additional friction between the two.

Legal Actions and Resolution

In March 2017, Shinde escalated the situation by filing a criminal defamation lawsuit against leaders of three industry organisations, asserting they had effectively banned her from the industry. She alleged that their actions prevented numerous opportunities, including a potential role on The Kapil Sharma Show.

In the same timeframe, she reported sexual harassment against Sanjay Kohli, claiming inappropriate remarks and threats. However, contradictory information surfaced, including comments about Shinde presenting gifts to Kohli’s wife, which raised questions about the veracity of her allegations.

By February 2018, Shinde decided to withdraw her sexual harassment complaint against Kohli. She later commented that offers to resolve the issue emerged after the case was dropped, although she had initially found herself isolated during her challenges. The conclusions from the ongoing disputes suggest a complex atmosphere surrounding her departure and the events that transpired thereafter.
