Sanjay Raut Claims Rs 15 Crore Offers for MPs Amid Shiv Sena Turmoil

The CSR Journal Magazine

Sanjay Raut, a prominent leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), has alleged that Maharashtra MPs are being offered Rs 15 crore each to switch parties, heightening tensions within the political landscape of Maharashtra. This claim follows increasing speculation regarding a potential defection by several of the party’s members, as reports suggest that six to seven of the party’s nine Lok Sabha MPs may consider joining the faction led by Eknath Shinde, the state’s Deputy Chief Minister.

Raut made his allegations public via a post on X late on Tuesday, stating, “Apna sapna money…money! There is information that an advance of Rs 15 crore will be given tonight to buy MPs from Maharashtra. This is shocking and disgusting!” His statements reflected ongoing concerns about the loyalty of Shiv Sena (UBT) lawmakers in the wake of political maneuvering.

The situation has prompted heightened activity, with multiple party lawmakers reportedly gathering in New Delhi, fuelling speculation about potential shifts in allegiance within the political framework.

Party Leadership Reacts to Defection Fears

In response to the burgeoning fears of defections, Shiv Sena (UBT) summoned all its MPs to an important meeting in New Delhi. The party issued a whip mandating attendance, warning that absentees could face disqualification proceedings. This strategic move reflects similar measures taken during the 2022 rebellion, when a faction of 39 MLAs successfully opposed Uddhav Thackeray’s leadership, resulting in the downfall of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

Sources within the party indicated a growing unease with the leadership dynamics, which could lead to defection by those MPs leaning towards Shinde’s faction. Allegations of dissatisfaction among some members were reportedly linked to a potential elevation of Aditya Thackeray within party ranks, which had become a contentious topic among lawmakers. Speculations intensified as Shinde was scheduled to arrive in New Delhi late on Tuesday.

The gravity of the situation was further underscored by comments from Shiv Sena leaders, illustrating a rift that could significantly shape the party’s future.

Speculations of a Split and Party Unity Claims

Adding to the unfolding tensions, Pratap Sarnaik, Maharashtra’s Transport Minister and a senior Shiv Sena leader, indicated a willingness to accept disgruntled lawmakers if they wished to change allegiance. He stated, “If public representatives like MPs and MLAs do not trust their leadership… If they believe in the ideals of Sena founder Bal Thackeray and are willing to trust the leadership of Eknath Shinde, then the doors of the Shiv Sena are open to them.” His remarks have contributed to the growing speculations surrounding potential switchovers.

The situation appeared even more precarious when attendance at Thackeray’s recent meeting was notably low. Out of the nine MPs, only four were present in person, while others joined through virtual means, raising questions about internal unity. Raut attempted to mitigate concerns by stressing that the absence of some members did not indicate rebellion, asserting their loyalty to Thackeray and the party’s principles.

Raut further rejected claims of an impending split, insisting that all Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs remain united and committed to their leadership. He reiterated that the party has a long-standing tradition that has weathered many challenges, thereby emphasising the importance of party cohesion amidst external pressures.
