Rhea Chakraborty Struggles With Trauma Following Sushant Singh Rajput’s Death

The CSR Journal Magazine

Rhea Chakraborty recently spoke about her ongoing struggle with the trauma associated with the tragic death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Five years have passed since the incident, yet Chakraborty revealed that she continues to find it challenging to move past the emotional impact. In a recent interview, she emphasized that healing is not a definitive process but rather an ongoing journey.

During her appearance on the chat show “Double Date,” hosted by Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi, Chakraborty discussed her experiences with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She stated that trauma often “stays in your body, if not in your mind,” highlighting the enduring nature of the emotional scars left by such events.

Chakraborty mentioned her commitment to therapy, noting that addressing one’s mental health is vital in navigating through painful memories and experiences. She explained that coping mechanisms take time and are essential for personal recovery.

Public Scrutiny and Its Impact

Rhea Chakraborty also reflected on the complexities of dealing with trauma in the public eye. The highly publicised nature of the case has made healing even more arduous for her and her family. She acknowledged that the constant scrutiny from the public intensified her emotional challenges, stating, “Ours was public, so everyone knows about it, everyone talks about it, and that’s okay.”

Her brother, Shovik Chakraborty, who was also part of the interview, commented on the drastic shift in their lives due to the controversy surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. He revealed that their lives took an unexpected turn, affecting their perspective and routines significantly. Before the incident, Shovik had been focused on academics, aspiring to gain admission to esteemed institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and the Wharton School.

Reflecting on the last few years, Shovik stated that it has taken nearly four to five years for them to regain a semblance of normalcy in their lives. Nonetheless, he pointed out that remnants of their past experiences still linger. “Even now, there are some days when you think, ‘This happened to me,’” he remarked, indicating the lasting emotional weight of their ordeal.

Living With PTSD and Daily Challenges

Shovik Chakraborty has openly admitted to living with PTSD, describing how certain ordinary occurrences can evoke painful memories. He explained, “Sometimes a random doorbell ring takes me back. There was so much chaos at that time that every doorbell made us feel like someone was coming after us.” This underscores the ongoing effects of their experiences on daily life and underscores the complexities of mental health recovery.

On the professional front, Rhea Chakraborty has remained active in the film industry, most recently appearing in the movie “Chehre” (2021) alongside well-known actors Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi. Her previous film credits include “Jalebi” (2018) and “Mere Dad Ki Maruti” (2013), showcasing her continued commitment to her craft amid personal challenges.

The siblings’ experiences underline the profound and often long-lasting effects of trauma, particularly when compounded by public scrutiny and societal expectations. Both Rhea and Shovik continue to navigate their lives while managing the emotional aftermath of their past.
