Ravi Kishan Praises BJP’s Remarkable Performance in West Bengal Elections

The CSR Journal Magazine

Ravi Kishan, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has expressed his admiration for the party’s performance in the recent West Bengal assembly elections, labelling it a ‘historic’ transformation for the state. He communicated his views to ANI on May 4, emphasising that West Bengal has successfully risen above its previous state of ‘fear.’

Kishan attributed the BJP’s victory to the effective strategies employed by Home Minister Amit Shah and the collective support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership from the populace. He stated that the election results reflect a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.

According to Kishan, the blessings of Maa Durga have contributed to the revival of Bengal’s identity. He remarked, “The whole of Bengali society has shown faith in PM Modi and in Home Minister Amit Shah’s strategy,” asserting that the election reflects the desire of the Bengali Hindu community to break free from what he termed a ‘world of fear.’

Electoral Outcomes Point to BJP’s Majority

The BJP has crossed the majority mark in West Bengal, marking a substantial setback for the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and its leader Mamata Banerjee in her quest for a fourth consecutive term. Trends reported by the Election Commission of India indicate that the BJP is currently leading in 156 seats, while TMC trails with 86 seats. This electoral shift has noteworthy implications for the state’s governance.

The BJP’s regional ally, the Gorkhaland Janmukti Morcha (BGPM), is reportedly leading in one seat, further hinting at a promising transformation in West Bengal’s political scene. Suvendu Adhikari, serving as the Leader of Opposition in West Bengal and an important candidate for the BJP, expressed confidence in the party’s position, predicting, “The BJP will form the government with more than 180 seats.”

Moreover, West Bengal has witnessed record voter turnout figures during these elections. Phase II of the assembly elections recorded an impressive turnout of 91.66 per cent, while Phase I saw a participation rate of 93.19 per cent, resulting in an overall polling percentage of 92.47 per cent. These figures represent the highest voter engagement since India gained independence.

Contrast with Previous Election Results

The 2021 West Bengal assembly elections saw the TMC, led by Mamata Banerjee, achieving a remarkable victory, securing 213 out of 294 seats with a vote share of approximately 48 per cent. In contrast, the BJP emerged as the chief opposition party, gaining 77 seats and around 38 per cent of the votes, indicating a significant increase from its previous performance.

The Left-Congress alliance, in stark contrast to both the TMC and BJP, failed to win any seats in the same election cycle. This outcome highlights a shift in voter allegiance within the state, as the BJP continues to bolster its position in a region traditionally dominated by the TMC.

As the political atmosphere in West Bengal continues to evolve, the implications of this election for future governance and party dynamics will require careful observation. With the BJP’s recent successes, the state’s political structure may undergo considerable changes in the coming periods.
