The CSR Journal Magazine

Chief Minister of Rajasthan Bhajan Lal Sharma issued firm directives to cut down government fuel consumption. He ordered that his own convoy would now be bare minimum. He strictly directed that there will be no unnecessary vehicles in his own convoy and circulated advisory to all state officials and public representatives following the same. This directive wasn’t just for the CM office; it was circulated across to all senior officials and elected representatives in the state. This includes Chief Secretary V. Srinivas as well.

Why was the convoy cut order passed?

This move came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to all Indians to conserve fuel. Modi asked everyone to cut the usage of petrol and diesel, rather prefer metro rail and public transport, even opt for car-pooling, and railways for movement and prefer electric vehicles. This appeal was made by Narendra Modi in the southern city of Hyderabad amid an alarming global energy crunch. The global fuel costs have increased.

During the address PM Modi said the world is facing a surge in crude oil prices and an energy crisis due to the US-Iran war, and collective participation is needed to help India withstand global economic uncertainties.

Modi urged citizens to avoid unnecessary purchase

PM Modi has urged Indian citizens to stop unnecessary gold purchases for at least a year in order to control the pressure on foreign exchange outflows. He also requested people to avoid foreign travel and destination weddings abroad, he requested for domestic tourism rather.

How much dependent is India on imports?

When it comes to import, India imports 85% of its fuel needs. For crude imports, it is 50 percent dependent on Hormuz, for liquefied natural gas India is 60 percent dependent. Currently India spends $174.9 billion on crude and petroleum products.
