PTI Calls for Imran Khan’s Hospital Transfer and Improved Conditions

The CSR Journal Magazine

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has officially requested the immediate transfer of former Prime Minister Imran Khan to a hospital. The party has raised concerns regarding Khan’s current treatment in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where he has reportedly been held in solitary confinement since August 2023.

Khan, aged 73, faces multiple legal cases including charges of corruption, leaking state secrets, and entering into an unlawful marriage. He has consistently denied these allegations. The PTI is calling for his transfer to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a comprehensive medical evaluation and specialist treatment.

Furthermore, the party has highlighted the importance of allowing Khan regular access to his family, lawyers, and political associates to help address his health and legal concerns. PTI asserts that these requests are fundamental rights that should be respected without delay.

Restoration of Family and Legal Access

The PTI has emphasised the need to restore Khan’s right to weekly meetings with his family and legal representatives. They argue that such access is a basic human right, necessary for his well-being and fair legal representation. Currently, Khan’s communication with his family has been significantly restricted.

The last allowed meeting Khan had with one of his sisters was on December 5, 2025. Following that encounter, Khan’s sister, Naureen Khan Niazi, reported that he expressed serious concerns about Army Chief Asim Munir, which reportedly led to a ban imposed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on further family visits.

In addition to these access issues, the PTI insists that Khan should have the ability to maintain regular telephone contact with his sons and receive reading material such as books and newspapers while incarcerated. The party argues that these provisions are essential for his mental health and morale.

Political Mobilisation and Human Rights Concerns

PTI leaders have indicated plans for mass mobilisations to protest against what they describe as inhumane treatment of Khan within the prison system. Shaukat Basra, a senior PTI official, expressed that the current regime shows a blatant disregard for human rights, particularly in relation to Khan’s imprisonment.

Basra also warned that those in power will eventually be held accountable for their actions. He reiterated the call for justice for Khan, framing the current situation as a violation of his fundamental rights as a prisoner. The party is adamant about Khan’s urgent need for better health care, advocating for his transfer to a medical facility equipped to address his specific health issues.

Khan has been diagnosed with retinal vein occlusion, an eye condition that has necessitated medical attention. Earlier this month, he was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment, but PTI maintains that more specialised care is required. The party is focused on ensuring Khan’s health and legal rights are duly recognised and respected.
