Priority Darshan Slots Introduced for Elderly, Differently-Abled Devotees at Badrinath, Kedarnath Temples

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has announced the implementation of a priority darshan system aimed at elderly and differently-abled devotees visiting the Badrinath and Kedarnath temples. This initiative is designed to provide a more respectful, safe, and convenient experience for those who may require additional assistance during their pilgrimage.

Details of Priority Access Arrangements

Under the direction of BKTC Chairman Hemant Dwivedi, the new system allows for dedicated access times that cater specifically to elderly and differently-abled individuals. As part of this arrangement, the temples have allocated four separate slots of 15 minutes each for up to 50 devotees, ensuring that a total of one hour is available for priority darshan. This setup is intended to minimise the difficulties faced by these groups while offering prayers.

The designated time slots for the special darshan facility have been set from 8:00 AM to 8:15 AM, 10:00 AM to 10:15 AM, 3:00 PM to 3:15 PM, and 4:45 PM to 5:00 PM. During these periods, only elderly and differently-abled devotees will be permitted to participate in the darshan, thereby facilitating an orderly flow of foot traffic at both shrines.

Chairman Dwivedi further stated that the temple committee has prepared for a seamless experience through the establishment of comprehensive arrangements, which include adherence to the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). This reflects the committee’s commitment to prioritising the needs and comfort of its visitors.

Role of Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee

In light of the upcoming Char Dham Yatra, the Uttarakhand government appointed PCS officer Sohan Singh as the Chief Executive Officer of the BKTC. Prior to this role, Singh served as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate in the Chamoli district. His appointment is expected to enhance operational efficiency within the committee, which is crucial for the administration of the Kedarnath and Badrinath temples.

The BKTC’s responsibilities encompass overseeing the smooth execution of the Char Dham Yatra, a significant pilgrimage attracting thousands each year. This pivotal role underscores the importance of effective management to ensure that all attendees have a memorable and safe experience at the revered sites.

Given the scale of the Yatra, the committee’s efforts to facilitate smooth and efficient management are essential. The introduction of the priority darshan slots highlights the organisation’s proactive approach to accommodating various groups of pilgrims while maintaining the sanctity of the sites.

Health Initiatives for Pilgrims

Additionally, the Uttarakhand Health Department is taking measures to ensure the health and safety of pilgrims during the Char Dham Yatra. Comprehensive health screenings have commenced at the Rishikesh transit camp, which acts as a vital entry point for individuals embarking on this annual pilgrimage. Such efforts aim to safeguard the well-being of visitors before they reach the sacred sites.

Special arrangements have been established to facilitate the convenience of pilgrims arriving at the transit camp. These include medical assessments to identify any health concerns prior to the commencement of the yatra. The initiative is an essential part of the government’s broader strategy to ensure a smooth and secure experience for all attendees.

By focusing on both health and accessibility, the authorities are demonstrating their commitment to enhance pilgrim welfare and experience, thereby reinforcing the significance of these spiritual journeys in the lives of many devotees.
