The CSR Journal Magazine

Govind Dev Giri, Treasurer of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, announced that he will speak to the media following the conclusion of a Trust meeting amidst allegations related to financial misconduct involving temple donations. His comments came during a brief interaction with reporters prior to the meeting.

Dev Giri refrained from making any statements regarding the allegations before the meeting, instead specifying that he would provide details during a press conference later in the day. He noted, “I am not going to say anything right now. I will meet you tonight after today’s meeting. I am here for three days and will discuss everything.” The meeting has generated significant interest amidst ongoing discussions about alleged embezzlement.

Trust Meeting to Address Ongoing Controversy

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is convening in the Ram Temple complex in Ayodhya at 3 pm to address the allegations surrounding temple donations. The meeting will be presided over by Trust President Nritya Gopal Das, though there are uncertainties regarding his attendance due to health concerns.

Notable attendees expected at the meeting include Govind Dev Giri, Vishwaprasannatirth, Swami Parmanand Giri, Jagadguru Vasudevanand Saraswati, and Anil Mishra. Additionally, General Secretary Champat Rai and ex-officio members including District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi and Uttar Pradesh Home Secretary Sanjay Prasad are anticipated to take part. Sources indicate that Trust member K Parasaran will join via video conference.

This meeting is occurring in the wake of significant political discourse surrounding the accusations of misappropriation. Opposition parties have called for an investigation, while the ruling BJP has accused them of politicising the issue related to the Hindu faith.

Judicial Proceedings Related to Allegations Underway

In conjunction with the Trust’s internal discussions, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court is set to hear a public interest litigation (PIL) on the same day, which seeks a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged financial irregularities associated with the temple’s donations. The PIL, which was filed on June 12, calls for an examination of claims related to theft and misuse involving funds collected through donation boxes.

The bench, consisting of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Manjeev Shukla, will deliberate on the petition, which also demands an audit of the donations by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). This aspect of the case is seen as crucial in establishing the extent of the claims and the necessary accountability measures required.

Dev Giri’s involvement and the outcomes of the Trust meeting may significantly influence public perception and political narratives surrounding the ongoing controversy. As the situation develops, further clarity is anticipated from the press conference planned for later in the evening.
