Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored the pivotal role of India’s youth as the main drivers of the nation’s swift advancements in sectors such as manufacturing, innovation, and the digital economy. During the inauguration of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre – Viveka Smaraka in Mysuru on August 1, 2026, he highlighted how the younger generation is instrumental in transforming India’s global standing.

Recalling the vision of Swami Vivekananda, Modi emphasised that education, equality, and service are essential for the country’s progress. He attributed India’s advancements in semiconductor manufacturing and its recognition as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem to the potential of its youth. Modi stated, “Today, India’s economy is among the fastest growing in the world because of the strength of India’s youth.” He noted that digital solutions originating from India are gaining traction internationally, again attributing this to the capabilities of the younger generation.

Historical Context and Educational Developments

Reflecting on the historical journey of India’s youth, Modi asserted that they have evolved from being bound by the limitations of the past to becoming key contributors to global development. He remarked that Swami Vivekananda regarded youth education as the cornerstone of nation-building, emphasizing appropriate access to learning and equal opportunities.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that efforts have been made to eliminate educational discrimination based on language. Modi pointed out the systemic growth in higher education, with around 1.4 lakh MBBS seats available across 823 medical colleges, a development supported by the National Education Policy. He highlighted that students can now pursue studies in their mother tongue, making education more accessible.

Modi indicated that the expansion in the educational sector plays a critical role in harnessing the potential of youth. “In any country, the potential of the youth transforms into national strength only when they receive the right opportunities,” he stated, reiterating the importance of educational institutions in shaping the future.

Viveka Smaraka as a Centre for Youth Empowerment

The newly inaugurated Viveka Smaraka is conceived as a cultural and youth-centric space aimed at inspiring the younger generation in discipline, sportsmanship, and national service. Modi expressed confidence that this centre will motivate young individuals to prioritise societal and national interests, especially for the underprivileged.

Furthermore, he invoked the teaching of “Shiva Jnane, Jiva Seva,” asserting that serving humanity is akin to serving divine principles. The Prime Minister envisages the Viveka Smaraka as a space that will cultivate a spirit of dedication to the nation among youth.

Emphasising the importance of the centre’s mission, Modi stated that it should serve as a guiding light for young people who are committed to placing the country’s needs above their own desires. He believes this will foster a generation of individuals whose primary principle is to serve Mother India, aligning with the ethical and spiritual teachings of Swami Vivekananda.
