Oslo witnessed a strong display of growing economic and strategic cooperation between India and the Nordic nations as PM Modi highlighted a sharp rise in trade and investment ties during the 3rd India-Nordic Summit in Norway’s capital. Addressing joint statements after the summit, PM Modi said investments from Nordic countries into India have increased by nearly 200 per cent over the past decade, while bilateral trade has grown almost fourfold.
The Prime Minister said the partnership between India and the Nordic region has gained significant momentum since the summit framework was created eight years ago. He noted that Nordic investment funds have become important contributors to India’s rapid economic growth and have also generated employment opportunities within Nordic economies.
“To provide energy and speed to our relations with Nordic countries, we formed this format eight years ago. I am delighted that in the last few years, we have seen special progress in our relations,” PM Modi said during his address.

The Prime Minister underlined that India and the Nordic nations are connected through shared democratic values, trust and a commitment to human-centric development.
The Nordic region, which collectively represents an economy exceeding USD 1.9 trillion, is considered a global leader in renewable energy, clean technologies and sustainable economic systems. India’s engagement with the region is increasingly being viewed as strategically important for energy transition, resilient supply chains and technological collaboration.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the summit and bilateral engagements are expected to further strengthen trade and investment relations while also supporting progress on the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement and the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement.

Norway Visit Marks Diplomatic Milestone
PM Modi arrived in Norway after completing engagements in Sweden as part of his five-nation tour covering the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy from May 15 to 20.
The visit also carried diplomatic significance as it marked the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Norway in more than four decades. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had visited the Scandinavian country in 1983.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to India’s economic engagement with Nordic countries and help develop resilient supply chains through stronger regional partnerships.
