PM Modi Attacks TMC In Krishnanagar, Promises CAA Relief For Matuas

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi sharply targeted the Trinamool Congress (TMC) during a rally in Krishnanagar, West Bengal, on April 23, ahead of the second phase of the state elections. He claimed that his jhalmuri had delivered a “thunderous shock” to the TMC, accusing the party of sheltering “infiltrators” and fostering a culture of violence and corruption.

In his speech, PM Modi encouraged his supporters to display their enthusiasm for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He expressed confidence that victory for the BJP would be celebrated in West Bengal on May 4.

The Prime Minister’s remarks included light-hearted references to jhalmuri, a popular snack, which he mentioned enjoying, saying it had metaphorically struck a blow against the ruling party. This comment was made shortly after he indulged in the snack while on the campaign trail.

Promises for Matua and Namashudra Communities

During the rally, PM Modi pledged protection and support for the Matua and Namashudra communities, asserting that he would expedite the process of citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) for these groups. He assured them that they need not fear the TMC’s authority, stating that they would receive all rights and benefits as Indian citizens.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the historical context of political opposition in West Bengal, pointing out that the current resistance to the TMC mirrored past conflicts with the Left. He asserted that the people were now firmly against what he termed “jungle raj” under TMC rule.

Modi reiterated his commitment to ensuring governance focused on all citizens rather than those he accused the TMC of supporting. He stated, “After 4 May, a new guarantee of good governance will begin in West Bengal,” implying a transformational shift in leadership should the BJP secure victory.

Encouragement for Voter Participation and Acknowledgment of Election Commission

The Prime Minister noted the increased voter turnout in the first phase of West Bengal elections as indicative of growing anti-incumbency sentiments against the TMC. He referenced similar trends in Puducherry and Assam as signs of BJP’s potential success in the state.

Modi praised the Election Commission for overseeing comparatively peaceful electoral processes and congratulated them for reducing violence during the polls. He remarked that recent elections had demonstrated a significant improvement in the democratic voting spirit, stating that the current environment was in stark contrast to previous elections characterised by intimidation.

He conveyed gratitude to voters for their participation, urging them to set new records in voting turnout. PM Modi emphasised that this election marked a significant milestone as people previously silenced were now confidently voicing their support for the BJP.

Upcoming Election Phases and BJP’s Aspirations

The second phase of voting in West Bengal is scheduled for April 29, with the counting of votes to occur on May 4. The BJP, having won 77 seats in the previous election, aims to unseat the incumbent TMC, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who seeks a fourth consecutive term in office.

The Prime Minister concluded his address by expressing optimism about the BJP’s prospects in the upcoming elections, reiterating his commitment to serve all citizens and providing assurance of justice and governance free from corruption and favouritism.

Modi’s rally in Krishnanagar serves as a critical moment in the BJP’s campaign as they seek to establish a stronger foothold in West Bengal’s political landscape ahead of forthcoming polls.
