Peddi Clears CBFC After Major Edits Ahead of Release Starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor

The CSR Journal Magazine

The film Peddi, starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, is slated for release on June 4 and has successfully completed the censor process ahead of schedule. This report focuses on the specific edits mandated by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for the film’s original Telugu version.

Peddi received a U/A 16+ certificate but not without significant alterations. The CBFC insisted on modifications of numerous words, including ‘Loudesh,’ ‘Bokka,’ ‘Lambdi kodaka,’ ‘M***r C**d,’ ‘Dongamunda kodaka,’ and ‘Kalchi padi denguta.’ Additionally, the phrase ‘Saruku saman’ in the song ‘Chikiri Chikiri’ was also directed to be changed. In the latter part of the film, references to ‘Rajasthan’ and a particular community were instructed to be removed.

Fortunately, the film did not face any visual cuts; all action and violent sequences remain untouched. However, a notable request was made to alter a scene showcasing a middle finger, which will be covered with CGI effects in the final edit.

Censor Certificate Issued Following Edits

After the necessary adjustments were made, the producers of Peddi received their censor certificate on May 22. The film has a total runtime of 189 minutes, which translates to 3 hours and 9 minutes. This duration reflects the extensive narrative and character development included in the film.

Peddi features a star-studded cast including Ram Charan, Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani. The film is written and directed by Buchi Babu Sana, with Venkata Satish Kilaru as the producer and Ishan Saksena as co-producer. Renowned composer A R Rahman has contributed to the soundtrack. Jio Studios will manage distribution in North India, and the film is set to be released in IMAX format.

During the trailer launch, Ram Charan shared insights into his experiences while filming. He noted that the last 25-30 days of production included intensive wrestling scenes. Despite a cartilage injury sustained during shooting, he regarded the experience as rewarding, describing it as a memorable chapter of the film’s creation.

What’s Next for Peddi and Its Stars

As the release date approaches, anticipation builds among audiences eager to see how the film’s edits have altered its content. The successful approval by the CBFC illustrates the careful balance filmmakers must attain between creative expression and regulatory guidelines.

With A R Rahman’s musical contributions and a narrative directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi stands as a highly anticipated addition to the Indian cinema landscape. Fans of the leading actors are particularly excited to see their performances following the comprehensive preparation they underwent.

The film’s multifaceted story and diverse cast suggest it may make a significant impact not just in local markets but also potentially on international platforms. As marketing strategies ramp up in the lead-up to the release, industry watchers will be keen to monitor the film’s reception and box office performance following its debut.
