The CSR Journal Magazine

The Dr B R Ambedkar Law Internship Programme has been launched by the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU), which is led by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). This initiative aims to provide practical courtroom training to more than 650 law students from the University of Delhi. The programme’s fifth edition commenced on June 30, 2026, and is being conducted in collaboration with the Adhivakta Parishad Delhi Prant.

Details of Student Participation

According to the organisers, this year’s programme attracted a total of 964 applications from students enrolled in the Faculty of Law. After a rigorous interview process, 657 candidates were successfully selected to participate in the internship. This high level of interest reflects the growing ambition among students to gain practical experience in the legal field.

The internship is scheduled to begin on July 1, offering participants the opportunity to work closely with senior advocates and legal experts in various court settings. The selected students will gain exposure to proceedings not only in the Supreme Court but also in the Delhi High Court and multiple district courts within the national capital.

Organisers have outlined the objectives of the programme, which include familiarising students with essential aspects of judicial processes and enhancing their advocacy skills. Participants will learn about court functioning as well as legal drafting, thus preparing them for the challenges of a professional career in law.

Goals and Expected Outcomes of the Internship

Kunal Chaudhary, the Secretary of DUSU, emphasised that the primary aim of the initiative is to equip students with practical legal knowledge that will serve as a foundation for their future careers. He noted that the programme seeks to encourage young law students to positively contribute to the justice delivery system while upholding constitutional values.

Moreover, the internship is designed to foster valuable interactions with seasoned members of the legal fraternity. Chaudhary believes that this initiative provides a unique platform that bridges the gap between academic learning and practical application, enhancing the skill sets of those involved.

Sanjay Poddar, the state president of Adhivakta Parishad Delhi Prant, remarked that the internship is not merely a training module but a vital opportunity for students to gain firsthand experience with the judicial system. He expressed the organisation’s commitment to mentoring aspiring legal professionals, believing that the programme will significantly contribute to the development of competent lawyers in the future.

Conclusion and Future Implications

As the programme prepares to commence, both the DUSU and Adhivakta Parishad are optimistic about its outcomes. With practical exposure to the intricacies of legal proceedings, the selected students are expected to emerge more capable of navigating the professional landscape upon graduation. This initiative marks a significant step towards enriching the educational experience of law students at the University of Delhi and may have lasting effects on the future of legal practice in the region.
