As of July 14, 2026, more than 31.78 crore unorganised workers have registered on the e-Shram portal, according to Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje. She provided this information during a written reply in the Lok Sabha. The e-Shram initiative aims to provide a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW), which includes platform and migrant workers.

The e-Shram portal was launched on August 26, 2021, to facilitate the registration of unorganised workers, including gig and platform workers, who receive a Universal Account Number (UAN) through self-declaration. This registration aims to enhance access to social security benefits for these workers.

Microsites Aimed at Local Empowerment

To empower individual states and Union Territories, the Ministry of Labour and Employment introduced Microsites for e-Shram on January 29, 2025. These dedicated Microsites enable States and UTs to address specific local challenges and requirements more effectively. The features of these Microsites are tailored to facilitate the registration process, data updates, and verification of unorganised workers.

This local support system aligns with the aim of creating efficient and responsive services that cater to the unique needs of workers in various regions. By streamlining these processes, the Microsites are expected to simplify the access to e-Shram services for local workers.

In line with the Vision of the Budget Announcement for 2024-25, the Ministry launched the eShram “One-Stop-Solution” on October 21, 2024. This initiative seeks to provide unorganised workers with comprehensive access to multiple social security schemes, all available through the eShram portal.

Future Enhancements and Linkages

The eShram platform is not limited to registration alone; it has established connections with various government initiatives to provide unorganised workers with additional support. This includes linkages to the National Career Service (NCS), which offers job opportunities, and the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) for skill development.

Furthermore, the portal integrates the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM) scheme, which focuses on pension benefits for unorganised workers. The convergence portal of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) also collaborates with eShram to enhance service delivery.

The integration of these various programmes through eShram aims to ensure that unorganised workers can access essential social security benefits efficiently. The Minister stated that as of now, fifteen schemes from different Central Ministries and Departments have been successfully mapped with eShram, extending vital services to cardholders.
