Over 10,000 Girls Qualify in JEE Advanced 2026 for First Time

The IIT Roorkee announced that over 10,000 girls successfully qualified for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) through JEE Advanced 2026, marking a historic milestone in the examination’s history. This achievement represents the highest number of female aspirants passing the examination in a single cycle. Such a notable statistic reflects an upward trend in women’s involvement in technical education, underscoring the importance of female representation in the fields of STEM.

According to IIT Roorkee, there has been a significant increase in the number of female candidates taking the JEE Advanced in recent years. Arohi Deshpande from the IIT Delhi zone emerged as the top-ranked female candidate in the recent results. She secured 280 marks out of a total of 360, resulting in an impressive 77th rank in the Common Rank List (CRL). This achievement highlights the potential and capabilities of female candidates in competitive examinations, contributing to the growing recognition of women’s academic success in engineering disciplines.

The results were announced on June 1, 2026, with Subham Kumar from the IIT Delhi zone obtaining the All India Rank (AIR) 1. He achieved the highest score with 330 marks. Kabir Chhillar and Jatin Chahar followed closely in second and third places, securing 329 and 319 marks, respectively. The dominance of the IIT Delhi zone in the overall results is significant, illustrating the competitive nature of candidates in this region.

Out of a total of 1,87,389 candidates registered for the JEE (Advanced) 2026, approximately 1,79,694 participated in both papers of the examination conducted on May 17. The total number of candidates who qualified this year stood at 56,880, significantly contributing to the overall success rate. Among these, 10,107 were female candidates, marking an important achievement in the dynamics of participation in engineering education.
