The Oppo Find X9 Ultra embodies the quintessential features expected from a premium smartphone, making a statement with its bold and flashy design. Available in two distinct finishes, the Tundra Umber edition has camera-inspired textures resembling those of Hasselblad. This variant is intended to evoke a classic feel. In contrast, the Canyon Orange model, which was reviewed, stands out with its vibrant colour, instantly drawing attention.

The orange variant offers a lively appearance that is reminiscent of Apple’s Cosmic Orange iPhone. Meanwhile, for users who prefer a more understated look, the black edition may be more suitable. One notable aspect of the design is the oversized camera module on the back, which not only enhances visual appeal but also improves grip during use. Even though the phone weighs 235 grammes and has noticeable thickness, its rounded edges ensure comfort during daily activities.

Unique design elements include an Action Button that can be customised for various quick actions, as well as a dedicated camera control key. While the Action Button is genuinely practical, the camera key feels less impactful with its current functionalities. Despite some underutilisation, both features point to Oppo’s intention to innovate.

Display Capabilities

The Find X9 Ultra is equipped with a large 6.82-inch QHD+ AMOLED display that impressively supports a variable refresh rate ranging from 1 to 144Hz. This significant screen size and superior specifications make it ideal for both gaming and multimedia consumption. Users can expect deep blacks and vibrant colours that enhance the viewing experience on platforms like Netflix or YouTube.

This display not only showcases HDR content vividly but also maintains clarity in darker scenes, dispelling any muddiness that can occur on lesser screens. Although the maximum refresh rate is 144Hz, the device generally operates between 90Hz and 120Hz depending on specific applications. Despite this limitation, the user experience remains exceedingly smooth, further enhanced by effective auto-brightness management.

Oppo also incorporated features like 2160Hz PWM dimming for reduced flickering, making it easier on the eyes. The display is safeguarded by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which, even after some accidental drops during testing, showed no scratches, reinforcing its durability.

Performance and Battery Life

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, the Find X9 Ultra delivers exceptional performance. During benchmark tests, it registered impressive scores, highlighting its capability for demanding tasks such as gaming, video editing, and multitasking. Daily usage demonstrates this efficiency, as apps launch promptly and multitasking seamlessly transitions between functionalities.

The device excels in gaming, handling titles like Genshin Impact without compromising on performance. However, users may notice some heating during extended sessions, which could affect long-term gameplay. The battery life stands as another strong point, with effective software optimisation allowing it to last beyond a full day even under rigorous use.

Rapid charging is facilitated by a 100W SuperVOOC charger, which takes the device from 8 to 100 per cent in approximately 37 minutes. Unlike some brands that omit chargers with purchases, Oppo includes this accessory in the box, a welcomed feature for consumers.
