Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has announced that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is expected to fully transition to a computer-based format starting next year. In an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Pradhan highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the examination system, aiming to reduce irregularities associated with the testing process.

Pradhan commended the collaborative efforts of students, parents, teachers, invigilators, and security personnel in ensuring this year’s NEET was successfully conducted. He expressed gratitude for the dedication shown by all involved, acknowledging their crucial roles in facilitating the examination.

Government Action Against Exam Irregularities

The minister elaborated on the measures implemented to counteract paper leaks following recommendations made by the Radha Committee. He stated that the government is actively exploring structural reforms as part of the examination process to enhance its integrity. Among these recommendations is the proposal for a computer-based test format, which Pradhan confirmed the government aims to initiate next year.

In his remarks, Pradhan indicated a willingness to consider decentralising the examination process to provide a more effective and streamlined approach for aspirants. He urged candidates to prepare accordingly for potential changes in the testing format, which may include a more localised implementation.

Instilling confidence in prospective candidates, the Education Minister assured that every effort would be made to eradicate irregularities and dismantle the so-called “paper mafia.” He stressed the government’s commitment to upholding the examination’s integrity through stringent oversight and reform measures.

Reactions to Political Criticism

Pradhan also addressed the recent protests at Jantar Mantar regarding NEET and related issues. He asserted that while public discourse is vital, it should be centred around finding solutions rather than creating further divisiveness. The government remains focused on its responsibilities to enhance the examination system for the benefit of all stakeholders.

The minister concluded by underscoring Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to the situation. He stated that the Prime Minister’s active involvement reflects a broader responsibility to the nation’s citizens, indicating that the administration is resolute in its pursuit of a fair and organised examination environment.
