The CSR Journal Magazine

A 31-year-old woman from Nagpur has reported being raped and defrauded of Rs 14.8 lakh by a man she met on a matrimonial website. The accused, identified as 36-year-old Raghavendra Kishor Awasthi, was apprehended following the woman’s complaint. The case has raised serious concerns regarding online matrimonial platforms and the potential risks involved in such arrangements.

Details of the Allegations

The woman alleges that Awasthi misrepresented himself as a divorced man, falsely claiming that his first wife was deceased. In reality, it has been revealed that his wife is still alive. The initial stages of their relationship appeared normal; however, Awasthi’s true intentions reportedly surfaced as he began demanding large sums of money under the pretext of financial needs for a gym business he intended to start.

According to the first information report (FIR) filed by the complainant, Awasthi pressured her into providing substantial financial support on multiple occasions. The demands escalated, leading the woman to part with her savings in hopes of securing a future with Awasthi. It has been reported that not only did Awasthi deceive her concerning his marital status, but he also is alleged to have exploited her emotionally throughout this period.

The woman has also claimed that Awasthi’s family members may have played a role in the fraudulent scheme. She has described experiences of both psychological and physical harassment during her interactions with him. These allegations highlight a troubling pattern of manipulation and deceit, culminating in a grave violation of trust.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the allegations made against Awasthi. The police are examining the details mentioned in the FIR to understand the full scope of events. Investigators are likely to interview the accused and potentially view digital communications between Awasthi and the complainant to gather more evidence.

This incident has sparked discussions on the safety and reliability of matrimonial sites. Many individuals find themselves vulnerable to similar situations due to lack of verification processes. The case has prompted calls for stricter measures and safeguards to protect users of such platforms, ensuring that individuals can navigate online matchmaking without facing exploitation.

As the investigation progresses, law enforcement agencies are urging the public to remain vigilant while engaging in online relationships, stressing the importance of verifying claims made by prospective partners. Authorities have also indicated their commitment to pursuing justice for the victim and addressing any systemic issues highlighted by this case.
