Man’s Plea Uncovers Alleged Murder of His Wife in Bihar

The CSR Journal Magazine

Gaurishankar Kumar has spent nearly two months seeking answers regarding the sudden disappearance of his 19-year-old wife, Sujata Kumari. Initially, her absence seemed mysterious, as phone calls went unanswered and her family claimed they had no knowledge of her whereabouts. As time passed and days turned into weeks, Kumar’s fears escalated, prompting him to seek help from authorities to locate his missing wife.

In a series of emotional appeals posted on social media, Gaurishankar urgently called for an investigation. His persistence took a drastic turn when he threatened to end his own life if those responsible for Sujata’s disappearance were not apprehended. What started as a missing-person case has since evolved into a suspected honour killing, which has captured public attention and shocked the residents of Muzaffarpur district in Bihar.

Unfolding of a Chilling Murder Allegation

According to police reports, Sujata allegedly met her death at the hands of her own family members due to her marriage outside their caste. Investigators claim that her body was disposed of and subsequently burned at the Budhi Gandak river in an attempt to eliminate any trace of the crime. The case took a significant turn following Gaurishankar’s persistent efforts, which urged authorities to delve deeper into the matter.

The couple’s relationship has roots that date back several years. Originating from neighbouring villages, Sujata and Gaurishankar had been friends since school. Their bond, blossoming into a romantic relationship, endured familial opposition over the past six years. In January 2026, the couple eloped and married in Samastipur before relocating to Haryana, which sparked outrage among Sujata’s family due to the caste difference.

This turmoil led to a kidnapping case being filed against Gaurishankar. However, during a court appearance in February, Sujata expressed her determination, stating that she was of legal age, had married willingly, and wished to stay with her husband. The couple’s journey took another twist when legal proceedings forced them apart, and Sujata returned to her parental home during the Holi festivities.

Investigation and Confession of Family Members

Upon return, Gaurishankar alleges that he last communicated with Sujata on March 31, after which she mysteriously vanished. Consumed with concern, he rejected the notion of her disappearance and publicly campaign for assistance. He repeatedly approached police authorities with claims that his wife had been murdered by her relatives. His impassioned pleas gradually began to resonate with the public, bringing newfound attention to the case.

In response to Gaurishankar’s complaints, the Muzaffarpur police instituted a special investigation team under senior officer supervision. This focused inquiry soon identified Abhishek Kumar, Sujata’s brother, as a suspect. Reports indicate that during questioning, he confessed that family members had conspired against Sujata out of fear that she might return to her husband. Allegedly, this panic culminated in a lethal plan.

The police allege that Sujata was strangled on May 8 and her remains were later burned to conceal evidence. Following the investigation, forensic teams have collected samples from the location identified as a crime scene. Authorities believe that over five family members may have been involved in the incident and are actively working to apprehend the remaining suspects.
