Man Arrested for Drugging Passengers at Delhi Bus Terminal to Commit Robbery

The CSR Journal Magazine

A habitual offender has been apprehended by Delhi Police for allegedly targeting passengers at the Kashmiri Gate Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) using intoxicant-laced soft drinks. The accused, identified as Philip, alias Vicky, reportedly befriended travellers from various states before offering them a popular fruit drink, ‘Frooti,’ which had been mixed with sedative tablets.

Upon consuming the spiked drink, the unsuspecting victims would lose consciousness. It is alleged that during this time, the suspect stole valuable items such as gold chains, wallets, wristwatches, and other belongings before making his escape.

According to reports from the Delhi Police, the apprehension of the suspect was facilitated through careful examination of CCTV footage combined with the Facial Recognition System (FRS). This investigation led to the breakthrough in identifying and locating Philip.

Police Recover Evidence of Crimes

During the course of the arrest, law enforcement recovered crucial evidence, including four tetra packs of Frooti, 30 Lorazepam tablets, a stolen wallet, a wristwatch, and clothing that was allegedly worn while the crimes were conducted. The presence of these items adds weight to the allegations against the suspect.

Investigations further revealed that Philip has a lengthy criminal history spanning over 21 years. He is reported to have been involved in comparable offences in the past and currently faces four separate charges registered at various police stations across Delhi. This history of criminal activity raises serious concerns about his patterns of behaviour.

Authorities are actively conducting interrogations to ascertain the full scope of the alleged criminal racket. This might provide additional insights into whether there are more individuals involved or if there are further victims yet to be identified.

Impact on Public Safety at Bus Terminals

The arrest of Philip shines a light on the pressing issue of public safety at busy transport hubs like the Kashmiri Gate ISBT. As such terminals serve as major entry points for numerous travellers, especially those arriving from other regions, incidents of crime pose significant risks to their safety.

Officials have emphasised the need for increased vigilance and preventive measures at bus terminals to protect passengers from similar threats in the future. The police are examining strategies to enhance security, including more surveillance and personnel presence to deter potential criminals.

As this case unfolds, authorities urge travellers to remain cautious and alert, particularly in crowded areas where they may be approached by strangers offering food or drinks. Public awareness campaigns could be beneficial in educating passengers about the risks associated with accepting offers from unknown individuals.
